Is it wrong to have this if it's a girl...?

So whilst in John Lewis today they have a HUGE reduction on the iCandy apple2pear pushchair. It's a bargain at £595 and that comes with the pushchair, carry cot, 2 rain covers and adapters so all we need to buy is a car seat & isofix. Anyway, the main reason for the reduction is that they're selling them cheaper as it's something to do with an anniversary. The only thing is that it comes in one colour (well the hood for the pushchair attachment) and that's raspberry blue. Shade wise it is exactly as a raspberry slush puppy would be. It's a really lovely colour, and I don't want to know the sex of our baby, but would this put you off buying it? I don't want my child if it's a girl to be in all pink or a boy all blue, I hate the whole gender/colour thing. Just wondering whether the colour would put you off the price. It's a bargain though!!!

The colour's fine. If you like the colour and the pram then get it. Seriously what will happen if a baby girl has a blue pram. Nothing bad at all.

But I know what you mean. I hate the whole gender colour thing but it annoys me that that effectively rules out pink for girls. I am not sure what the pram looks like or what colour it is exactly but I think generally you are mainly paying for the frame and attachments? You could probably get different hood covers etc if it annoyed you for relatively little? I had a black bugaboo with all mine back in the day and I used to buy different good covers and seat covers each pregnancy for a change - could get then in eBay before bugaboo started doing them. Not sure if this is possible on the one you are talking about?

It would only bother me if I bought into gender stereotyping and was worried my child my grow up to be a tomboy/gay/mentally compromised because she was pushed around in a partially blue buggy.

Of course, if I thought that, I'd be a complete idiot.

I love it and the pram. I don't see the big hoo ha with having to have a girly colour if it is a girl but just wondered whether anyone would let it bother them.

Not bothered by the colour, and I doubt the baby will be either. Not wrong.

Oh do it's blue not pink? In that case is say get it! It's not right but a girl in blue seems quitte cool to me but I think it would be a bit weird, stupidly, to have a boy in a pink pram. Not sure why!!

I used to put my baby boys in a pink t shirt and it didn't really achieve anything, everyone just thought they were girls ...

The hoods are £60 but by that time people shouldn't get confused as to whether the child is a girl or boy. The gender stereotypical thing really bugs me the price is ridiculously good too the colour it is sold with is sort of a really bright light blue, as I say like a blue raspberry slush puppy

Sorry I didn't know raspberry slush puppies were blue! It sounds like a really nice colour to me and would work for me for either gender - esp since you can change the good colour if you fancy anyway.

I understand what you mean by unisex blue if that helps at all. My friend had a blue denim bugaboo for her daughters, looked great.

Sadly, though, due to our stupid obsession with pink, girly, princess, in this country in recent years there isn't a unisex pink. I did try with my dss ....

My DDs were born before pink pushchair and car seats were fashionable.

They had a blue car seat with a borrowed head hunger of a different design and a third fabric on the sun hood.

Their pushchair was a butch red and green off road Mountain buggy, usually covered in mud. With a cheap green Mothercare for muff.

Doesn't stop them growing up to do ballet, gymnastics and Rugby.

I had a blue (and cream) pram for dd2. I didn't know I was expecting a girl, and the salesperson in the shop kept trying to put me off because 'what if you have a girl?'

I used it with ds when he was tiny (he now has a deep pink purple one - loooong story!) and everyone commented how it was nice that this time I could buy a pram with no thought for the future (ds definitely my last baby) - obviously thinking that I had rushed out and bought a blue pram especially for him, rather than cleaning up the one hanging around the garage for the last 6 years!

If it si the pram you want, in terms of fold, handling, steering, basket room and so on then buy it. Why pay more money just for a different colour?

Regardless of whether you have a boy or a girl people will still mistake their gender when they're under one even when they're in a dress on their pram I used to call DD Trevor when asked how old 'he' was.

Miaow I have been subtly inspecting other peoples pushchairs with regard to dirt and totally agree with you! Luckily it's just the hood that is blue I totally get the gender confusion thing especially with girls, and if they don't have much hair

This morning I have added up how much it would cost if you bought all the bits needed that is included in the offer, and it's nearly £400 more!!!!!

Do it. I've got a petrol blue seat liner and footmuff in my DD pushchair. I just loved that colour. The 'girlie' colours were a bit crap and to girlie for me.

You can always not use the hood, sell it on a facebook group or Ebay and buy the colour of your choice! You can also use the old Apple hoods which are easily found on Ebay / groups etc second hand. If it helps, I have the Raspberry blue on mine for a girl and its a gorgeous turquoisey blue colour.

Well unfortunately most travel systems or the pushchairs don't fit in my car I originally was kidding when I jokingly said to myself 'oh I may need a bigger car' but no it seems reality has kicked in and my car is useless for a baby

Unless you have a 'side car' that's unlikely to be accurate - however, the things you would like to buy might not fit, but it's a choice, not a must.

I have a Nissan micra. We do a lot of driving to see friends and family. The boot space on them is tiny and even with a smaller compact pushchair like a bugaboo bee, it doesn't leave me much room for much else

Colours don't matter but I'd not pay £600 if I then still had to buy a car-seat. Why on earth would you need 2 rain covers? Do you really "need" a carrycot? Don't get swept up in the need for a "travel system" - get a decent car-seat and a lightweight pram.

I bought a very lovely Denim blue Mamas and Papas pram for DS1, we didn't know what we were having. His bedroom was also jade green with cornflower blue curtains. A few people thought we knew, but we didn't. But that was 8 years ago now and I don't think the pink had hit in the way it has now. He had a bright red stroller though.

Years ago all prams were navy weren't they? Can't see the issue. Buy it!

Get it if you like it. You can always use snuggle or blankets to contrast if it bothers you.
I have 2 girls and have had red, navy and grey prams. No scars here!
