Which colours for north-facing small kitchen?

We got very small (2 m x 3 m) north facing kitchen.
What colours would you choose for kitchen cabinets doors apart from white and pale gray?
Would gloss doors work better?

I wouldn't got grey. If it's north facing you need to use warm colours, otherwise it will look flat and dingy

i would go for cream, pale blue or white and gloss finish as it will reflect what light you do have as matt will absorb the light

Howdens designer said that cream will date quickly, while white or grey is timeless.
I have read that blue if cold colour so not recommended for north-facing rooms.
Would you choose any other colours if you go bespoke.

That's interesting advice from the Howdens designer, whilst grey kitchens are lovely (I've had one myself) they're very much a recent trend of the last five years or so and any trend that comes into vogue can go back out again! Of course its a very individual decision and it also depends on the kind of effect you want to create, but personally I would steer away from grey in a north facing kitchen. I would have thought something like a creamy neutral with a small hint of yellow in it, something like Farrow & Ball White Tie would work well with that aspect. Then you could use something like a duck egg blue as an accent colour if you wished. Not all blues read as cool, a blue with a hint of purple would read cool, but something with the tiniest hint of green would read much warmer.

I actually really like the very pale sage kitchens - they look good with many different counters and are a solid neutral without being too boring. Saying that, everything dates in some way so I would just pick what you like.

Yellow walls and white cabinets. Wood or granite worktops.

I'd say off white Shaker style. That design has been around for yonks!

Grey and navy are very now. You would have struggled to get anything grey a few years back.

I wouldn't go gloss as matte finish would be easier to update in future by just painting. I've got white and pale grey matte handleless units together in a tiny north facing kitchen, with a marble worktop. It's been in 5 years and looks as good as the day it was installed. I've had a deep mauve called Brassica on the walls in the past and now have a deep teal. Totally contrary to what I'd normally advise but we love it and get lots of compliments.

A light green (on the warmer side, like a soft olive) with off white cabinets would be nice. We have a smaller north facing kitchen with white gloss units and cream/brown tiles that was installed by the previous owners. I find the gloss cabinets quite cold looking and wish they were matt (easier to update and just softer looking/less clinical overall). The tiles are also not my favourite but the kitchen is still in very good condition and we plan to move within a year, so no point changing it.

We have a sage green kitchen (diy kitchens) in our north facing kitchen - looks million times better than the dark blue cold box the kitchen was before. Now has pale floor and off white walls. Wood counter also helps warm it up.

Our old kitchen sounds very similar in size and position. It had a cream gloss kitchen, it's about 12 years old now but has dated quite well I think. The room always felt quite light and had light worktops and flooring.

I think cream gloss with oak coloured worktops looks quite nice. Saw one cream gloss kitchen with a lovely shiny speckled brown stone/quartz style worktop and oak floors.

I've got a sage green kitchen/wooden worktops in my north-facing kitchen too, with cream walls. I don't care whether it dates or not; I like it.

Interested by the Howdens person saying cream would date quickly. We are planning to re-do our kitchen in a few months’ time and will likely be using Howdens too. I thought cream was a fairly classic, timeless colour and was planning on choosing cream rather than grey for that very reason! I may be wrong!

Light cabinets sound much more suitable than dark in a north facing kitchen. I’m afraid I don’t have any pearls of wisdom but I’ll be following this thread for tips even though my kitchen is west facing!

I think white gloss would be the best option for a small kitchen -anything else will make it feel claustrophic or look dirty.

I got samples of DIY Kitchens doors: Luca Alabaster matte, Linwood Cashmere and Altino Mussel gloss. I do not like Alabaster colour, to me it looks like dated white. I must admit Luca matt surface looks quite glossy. I found out that Altino Gloss and Carrera Gloss are very easy to scratch. I hope Luca gloss is of better quality.

Of all samples I like Cashmere colour most but it is too matchy Dekton Arga XGloss that I would love to have as worktop. Both myself and my DP prefer to have worktop in contrasting colour.

Our north facing kitchen is small but not tiny and we've just booked our refit. We're going with handleless units in a satin finish so not gloss but also not matt. We've gone for deep navy base units with white wall units and a marble worktop and upstand. No tiles (splash back behind hob) and our walls are painted white. I think it will be gorgeous and can't wait to get it done!

Ours is small and north facing.

The walls are cream, the cabinets are a duck egg blue and the surfaces are white wood. Appliances are all white as well 😊

Cream is fine, and anyway yellow is in. Colours usually start with fashion and move on to interiors.
