Double glazing quote

Hi, we have been given a couple of quotes for double glazing and just wanted to check if they seemed reasonable.

Window 1: 650 by 1280
Window 2: 2400 by 1300
Patio door: Standard size. Glazed top panel.

White PVC-u windows

Quote 1: £3,100
Quote 2: £4,550

Any experts out there? Do these seem ok?

I should have added - we had our kitchen window replaced, 3 years ago. approx 2 meteres by 1 meter, 1 window openings, total cost £650 by local family company

If you've got large companies to quote it probably will be more expensive. When I got double glazing a couple of years ago I asked on here for local recommendations and got a small local company for a fraction of the price.

Seems high to me too, get some more quotes from smaller local firms with good reviews online.

To me it is vital to see the type of frames they are going to supply. Some cheap frames are very thick, i.e. less glass, less light in. and, in my opinion, look clumsy and not very nice at all.

If those quotes are from one of the big companies they will send a salesman round to you and pressure sell to you, and keep offering 'discounts' but only if you sign there and then. Try a local company instead.

I had my whole house double glazed 3 years ago. That quote is very high.

Find a local company that makes their own windows rather than a middle man who will "shop around" for you. Don't use a National company, they spend a crap load of money on advertising and charge you for that. The frames are really good quality in terms of sturdiness and energy efficiency.

Mine are standard casement windows, every time you add an opener it was £100 more on the window. I'll give you a couple of mine. Oh and all of mine have the ability to unclip and to slide the open window toward the middle of the frame for easy cleaning of the outside from inside.

So, 1750 wide x 1350 high. 3 rectangle panes, centre one just glass, full height, the two side ones have a top opener (little window) and then an opener underneath.
£652 supply only £797 fitted.

Plain single pane, about 120h x 60 wide? no opener £408 supply, £498 fitted.

2 pane, one side full height opener, other pane top opener £432 supply, £528 fitted.

I am in West Yorkshire, the supply price was from an online company the fitted was what I actually paid for the local company to do it.
