Bifold doors corner

We are planning an extension where two sets of bifold doors will meet at the corner. We have to have a supporting pillar but can either have a 10cm sq metal pillar or a 30cm sq brick pillar. Anyone have any views on which is better?

I prefer the metal but think about window coverings.

can you do a cantilevered ceiling instead of a pillar? If not i would go for brick and paint it the same as the bi folds. You can get the RAL colour number of the doors and match the paint.

Definitely the metal pillar. So much less noticeable to your eye. Makes the space feel much more open.

A postless corner would be amazing but sadly we need the post - we were told the steel for a cantilevered roof would go through half the house and the budget can't cope with that! 😭

Our house is a 1990s suburban beauty - I guess I'm just worried that the metal corner might look a bit "architect-y" !

The witchcraft did involve two big bits of steel - the piece into the house was "only" 4 metres (but linked into another) and the one across the wide of the house 8 metres.

When the steel man delivered he said he thought we could have gone further (10m) and thought our architect had been rather cautious (his work would have been checked by the structural engineer before fabrication !)
