diy kitchens/ how to organise peninsula

Hi
In the next few weeks we are getting out kitchen fitted - we have knocked down wall between kitchen and dining room and are doing electrics/ ceilings and waiting to find a plasterer!
Not sure the layout of draws to have in the peninsula that will stick out. it will be about 1800mm. Was thinking 2 x 900m units with cutlery and pan draws - but do people think thats too big?
ill try and insert a pic of the layout we are going with.
also thinking diy kitchens - massive quote from howdens! but planning to revisit ikea again in next couple of days!
any help on layout would be greatly appreciated. we have no wall units apart from 1 tiny one so its important to get storage right!

900mm does seem very wide for a drawer. I'd speak to the manufacturer to make sure that if you fill it with heavy plates, the mechanism will be able to cope long term. You'll also need to allow space in the corner so that you can open the drawers and the corner unit. Have you ordered anything yet? The units will take a few weeks to arrive and it sounds like you're redoing things already.

We're having 2 x 1000m, 1 x 800 and 1 x 900 drawers (1 cutlery and 2 pan in each) and I don't think they're too big. Our plan is very symmetrical though and that was the size that best fitted the space! We're not having any wall units either. Our layout is attached and it's a U shape so kind of a peninsula I guess!

DIY kitchens are very reasonable as are Units On-line (who we're probably going to use) and both are far, far cheaper than Howdens, Wicks etc. Ikea are well priced but you'll have to assemble the units and you don't always get as much flexibility with things like size of units, panels, plinths etc.

we unfortunately have a small kitchen!
the peninsula will have a corner cupboard as well! i cant figure out how to add pictures!!!

You should be able to add pictures via the browse image buttons at the bottom of the screen.

We're very lucky in that the kitchen is going in a new extension so we
aren't limited space wise. We're having two corner units which are unfortunately the most expensive of all the units!

Friends have had their very small kitchen designed and supplied by Units Online and are very pleased.

ha ha - it worked!!! this is hoydens plan!
do people think smaller draws are better idea? we have 2 x corner units - unit with appliances, small dishwasher - thinking of changing to small 500m sink and 300m waste unit.
still cant decide on drawers - maybe smaller combinations as will need to store food too! plus not sure how to make corners more useful - we can have carousel on left - but nothing like that on night as water meter there!

I would go for the wider drawers. You can get more in them because there'll be less wasted space.

Use big pan drawers all the way! Apparently they are that strong you can stand in them! But, I would not like to put it to the test 😲

We've just installed a new kitchen with wide pan drawers - combination of 800mm and 900mm. Definitely do it, I just have 2 deep pan drawers in each set and it's fab.

Can't help on corners as I think they're a complete pain and purposely designed kitchen without corners.

Used Units online too who were great (although used DIY Kitchens for previous kitchen and would recommend them too - just depends on the look you want).

Your kitchen looks the same size as ours. Have you managed to squeeze on a dishwasher?

I'm having 2 cabinets with 1000mm pan drawers as I think they will fit more than smaller ones. I will wait to see but expect I will use drawer organiser things like IKEA ones. I too organised a kitchen without corners but in OP's case one of the corners could be a cupboard opening on the dining side.

On our peninsular we went for cupboards that opened both sides (and didn't do the stool thing). For the unit at the corner, we had a standard cupboard that opened in to the rest of the room. It means people can get stuff out (crockery for the table/cereal etc) without getting under your feet in the kitchen.

I'm useless on plans but just agreeing with everyone else about pan drawers. I wish I had put more in. I have 1 x 800 , and it takes a tremendous weight in each drawer ( one drawer takes my complete set of very heavy crockery) . Mine is a Howdens. They have a neat little infill drawer that sits inside the top drawer, like a big cutlery tray- very useful
