What shower surround/tray should we or should we NOT get? Need to decide tomorrow!

Okay, a panicky request. I'm trying to decide on a shower surround and tray for our loft shower room. I had thought I'd get something quite cheap, but now I don't know if I should invest in something a little more expensive.

I've read a few comments that say that cheap leak, and noticed lots of threads about limescale-stained glass. We are going to get a quadrant shower simply because it is a small bathroom and a square one will make it feel even smaller (size 800x900mm).

Please, any recommendations of good showers/trays that would be fantastic.

I wouldn't have thought the tray is as important as long as it is fitted and sealed well. We bought from this range and no problems so far www.snhtradecentre.co.uk/plumbing-bathrooms/900x800-left-hand-quadrant-low-profile-shower-tray.html

I think I'd spend a bit more on the enclosure, 6 or 8mm glass if possible but it's really about how smooth the mechanism is (presume you're getting a sliding door) which you can't try out online so maybe look if any supplied give warrantys/guaratees.

Having done up our current house and lived with it for a bit I think my motto would now be 'if its a faff to change it, put something decent in'. I put in a cheap tray and expensive screen. The tray is now looking a bit scratched already but there's no way we're going to change it so am just going to have to live with it!

Thanks MIL - that was one of the makes I was considering so it is great to know it is good.

Tattypoo - good advice. That was exactly what I was thinking of doing. Ah, it would be so easy to spend an utter fortune.

Get a resin one (more scratch resistant and solid than the cheapest trays) and one that isn't dead flat. Yes, the trend is for "super-sleek" almost flat trays, but they flood very easily!!

We went for something like this
Not the cheapest, but a year later it's holding up well to all sorts of punishment!

Did you get it? We have a quadrant tray with hinged screen doors which is nice, easier to clean (or it would be if I cleaned it as often as I should). BUT make sure you get tray and screen from the same range. I naively thought all 900 quadrant trays were the same, but it doesn't quite fit consequently our doors only just close and look a bit wonky.

Agree if you have a flat tray, make sure your waste has a good fall to the drain and the "Plughole" is easy to lift and clean. (especially if anyone in your household has long hair )

this is the one but I have to say the chrome on the inside of the handles has started to come off after 2 years.

We have one which has curved doors which slide behind a screen and it is a complete bastard to clean. The doors slide round in a trough which is impossible to get mank out of. I'd say go for smooth clean lines and hinged doors if you can.

We're going for this, with a concealed drain.
I've got a Matki curved quadrant now & I agree the glass (where the doors overlap) is impossible to clean.
I'm having a straight piece of glass this time

Thanks Smile
If I wasn't on a budget I'd have one of those sunken board things with mosaic tiles that match the wall. I've seen them in the show room & they're gorgeous.
