Moving house - school logistics help (and if you have local knowledge of Berkhamsted schools please read!)

We are likely to be moving house, either over the summer or early autumn to Berkhamsted. We will need school places for two of my children, one who will be in yr2 and the other in yr6.

At the moment, there is not a single school in Berkhamsted which has a place for both children. I realise that this could change but if it doesn't, what would happen if we moved into the area and there were no places for both children at the same school? I know there is a massive pressure on school places at the moment, so I am not confident that there will be places available.

Also - if you have any knowledge of Berko schools (good or bad), please could you let me know? Some of them seem to be faith schools which I think rules them out for us.

Your children would be placed in the nearest schools with places - this might be Hemel Hempstead, one of the villages around or Tring. The LEA might have to fund transportation for them if it's far away.

I replied to your other post about the schools in the area.

To clarify - your children could be placed at two different schools. They are under no obligation to find them spaces at the same school (regardless of how ridiculous this might seem).

In my last post I grouped the best schools to be in if you end up at two different schools. You also need to think about accepting a faith school place if it means both children can be in Berko (as opposed to one in Berko and one in Hemel).

Urgh. What a nightmare! I was hoping that at least they could place them at the same school.

Zodle - I think you might be thinking of another poster. I haven't got another post about schools in the area - can you link to it?
