Left handed folders?

fuzzywuzzy · 07/09/2006 13:05

I use this shop for all my stationery...

tbh he is probably going to have to get used to standard stationery at school so we didn't even think of doing otherwise with dd even were they available. Lefthanded scissors and pencil grips might help though.

Becky I'd love to put you out of your misery but umm I've always used regular folders...

OMG nearly pmsl.

Probably coz I feel so guilty I never even knew some of these things existed.

Of course left handed scissors but they have them at school on the table.

Everything else she just gets on with!

Am I a bad mum?

Well quite.

Actually, I would like a keyboard with the number pad on the left. That would be handy.

Personally, left handed calligraphy nibs are essential, as are left handed knives... strangely I'm right handed when I use scissors butthat's only becasue my gran thoguht it was bad luck and used to hit me on my left hand when ever she saw me using my left hand for things...

and dh changed the mouse over for me so its LH too

Report
beckybrastraps · 07/09/2006 13:16

I always do that. REALLY pisses dh off.

Report
nailpolish · 07/09/2006 13:18

no, i mean, he changed it so its not a left click i do but a right click, ie i can use my pointing (?) finger to click

Report
beckybrastraps · 07/09/2006 13:20

Yes, that's what I mean too . That's why it pisses him off when he comes to use it.

thanks - ds does use standard stationery but I figure when he is make so much effort to learn new things why not reward him with some things that help make things easier. I dont want him to feel that he has to struggle along with things like uncomfortable pencils. If he has an high instep I would try to get shoes that fit a bit better, but we would still but off the shelf stuff as well. DH is left handed and said it was always a nightmare at school, he never complained at the time tho, but the teachers showed no appreciation of his left handedness when it came to doing things or writing with pens etc.

I think they have a lot more awareness for left handers now ime anyway but its a nice thought to get him something.

I may even do the same - DD is 6.

Shall I get her a potato peeler? [grin.

Just joking but have you seen the wallets/purses? I am gobsmacked these things exist. Will show her the web site later.

Both dd's and I are left handed and we have NEVER bought anything left handed, the school haven't mentioned them needing anything left handed either.

I'm still trying to picture the folders....

Seriously - I never found pencils or pens a problem. I'm a pusher rather than a puller ie I push my pen across the page rather than try to curl my arm round to pull it. I don't know if it makes a difference. I did have a special nib for calligraphy, but your ds won't be needing a pen yet. I can see the point of left handed rulers for measuring, but he won't be doing that yet either. The preschool is bound to have scissors. I'd wait and see if they suggest anything.

dh is a 'puller' arm curled all the way round when he rights so as to not smudge when using pen. looks most uncomfortable might get him some lefthanded pens. ds has really struggled with the plastic scissors and I have only just realised why. would still have given them to him so he could get used to them but will def get some left handed ones as well.

I dont want lots of things, mainly pens that dont smudge etc at this stage ( also mean I can look get things as and when they come in the sale). but also want to know what the options are in general for left handed people dh is alway moaning about pens dont think he new lefthanded pens existed.

I don't know what the received wisdom is on pushing and pulling, but I agree that pulling looks most uncomfortable. I know where you're coming from, and as I said, there are a couple of produts that I think would be really useful. I just think that you also have to be competent with the "normal" stuff, because usually that's all there is.

Does he write with pens? Because my ds has just started in year 1 and still uses pencils to write. A biro wouldn't smudge either would it?

Don't want to hi-jack but just been looking at that site for left handers.

We are visiting a friend on saturday and her DD is going to try and teach my DD how to tie her shoe laces using a lace up card thing. Just seen one on the site with tips for teaching left-handers. It hadn't even occured to me that was why we are struggling!!!

Any tips?

For writing I would think getting a writing mat would help. We were taught ot write using a writing mat at school, it took me forever but then nobody thought about the fact that I'd have ot put my paper at a different angle to write properly on....

I don't remember how I learnt ot tie shoe laces, and both my girls are right handed.
