My baby girl was born at 34 weeks, not magourly early.

She is now 16 months old next week and still not walking.

Just wondering when anyone else's little
Bundles started walk?

Ummmmmmmm!

Mt 32 weeker walked at 15 months
I think my 27 weeker walked at 21 months but I wouldn't bet my house on that Blush

16 weeks is still not far off normal for a term baby so I wouldn't worry about it :)

28 weeker walked at 17m, but DC4 (term) didn't walk til 16m, so I wouldn't fret about it. Frankly the later they walk the better Grin

I just worry about her all the time wen though she wasn't very early!! My elder 2 walked when they were 10 months so I keep thinking she will never walk!! She cruises round the furniture, and she will hold your hands and walk but can not stand unaided yet.

Thank you both for replying.

Don't worry about it - I had my oldest two walking at 11m and 9m, they all do it when they're ready.

32 weeker at 13 months, 34 weeker at 22 months. It really depends on the child.

34weeker just before her 1st birthday.
Yet ds1 born at 38 weeks didnt walk till 18months+
All kids are different and go at their own pace imo.

I agree, its definitely nothing to do with prematurity in the majority of cases. My twins born at 27 weeks walked at 14 months (actual), 11 months (adjusted) and my 39+6 weeker walked at 13 months.

30 week dts - dt2 was around 14 months and dt1 17 months actual age. Dont worry especially if she is cruising around furniture she will do it when she is ready.

33 weeker walked at 22 months. Delayed gross motor skills because of being a prem with problems. Took a long time for him to be able to run without falling over (until he was nearly 5) but by the time he was 6 he was the second fastest runner in his year.

33 weeker, first solo steps at 12 months, now nearly 14 and walking well. Sounds like your DD is doing all the right things to prepare for her impending solo attempts. I think this is the main thing to worry about. My DS isn't talking yet and I worry every so slightly (of course, we all do, always with the prem issue at the back of our minds) but he is making lots of pre-word noises, imitating sounds and I know (my brain knows) it's just a matter of time and he will start saying things. Try and be patient!

I've been wanting to start a thread about this but part of me was scared to. My 33 weeker had a terrible start and we have had lots of scares since although he continues to pass all the 'tests ' they throw at him ( and me Sad) . He had delayed visual maturation so his reaching out etc were delayed although he can do it now at 9 months corrected . He can only just sit although he rolls and stands really well as his legs are strong . I have been warned to expect up to 2 years before prems walk . Eek!

My DS can't walk, and he in not quite 2 adjusted. He does have CP (spastic diplegia)

However he was diagnosed with CP when he was 11 months actual (9 months ish corrected). The physios and CDC knew he would have cp.

In case my exeperience helps he has been delayed on all motor milestones although not massively (sat at 10 months corrected - but wobbly, commando crawled at 13 months corrected, crawled normally at 15 months corrected, started to cruise at about 17 months corrected, and yet can't walk yet. I think he will wlak in 2-3 months from now, but its up to him). He likes to kneel not sit.

To be honest I knew he had CP before they told me. I didn't accept it but I knew.

I worried and then I denied it, but I still knew.

If you have any doubts speak to your CDC, speak to your physio and get help. It can't help as prems have typically got low core strength which delays walking, plus other issues to do with being prem, and they say each week in hospital post term delays development further.

My ds is under paed and physio and they have says def not cp but who knows . They have got so much wrong so far . He is only supposed to be 9 months and had horrible reflux when he was small . It's just such a worry .

It's such a worry Isnt it!!

I thankfully (touch wood) haven't had any issues as such with her she is reaching her milestones ok a little late but all within averae range I think!!
She say up unaided 8 months .. Crawled about 10 months!!
Also she is really good with her speech!!

I'm not sure if her walking should be a cause for concern or it's me worrying!! Like I said before she an cruise the furniture .. Hold my hands and walks .. I can stand her up against the wall and she will stay. But when she tries to walk she will just literally grow her self at me.

For what it's worth my dd sat at 6 months , crawled at 7, cruised at 9 but didn't walk unaided until 12 months . She was term but she didn't have the confidence to let go . She walked round the house with one of those trolleys with bricks in for months . I don't care when he does it , just would like to know he will.

Are you seeing a physio ? By the sounds of it she is getting there so I wouldn't worry . ( very tricky I know) . I know lots of term babies that didn't walk until 18 months . Is 16 months her corrected age or actual?

Report
xkatyx · 05/05/2012 08:56

She will be 16 months on the 10th.

Her corrected age would be nearly 15 months! I think she was 6 weeks early!!

No we are not seeing a physio yet, they said when she is 18 months!

Dd was 27+
Walked at 15 mths just over a year corrected.
Physically she's good, she has other problems though

All children are different

ds (31 weeker) walked at 14 months
dd1 (31 weeker) at 18 months
dd2 (27 weeker) at 20 months

rather think that my girls were quite lazy and would have walked at the later end of 'normal' even if they'd been full term! actually, thinking back, i never worried about them not walking - all three showed no signs of having problems with walking, even the dds, despite their lateness.
