How much bigger am I going to get????

Leogaela · 11/01/2005 10:37

I have now almost reached 32 weeks. The baby is kicking hard up on my ribs, my bump starts just under my boobs and I am feeling quite big. I thought that the growth of the bump from here on would be very slow and not much more.

However, last night I started a birth preparation class and was shocked to see how much bigger a girl with a 35 week bump is. She looked as if she had twice as much bump as me and looked as if she was carrying a sack of potatoes on her front.

how much more should I expect the bump to grow in the next 8ish weeks? Did the other girl just have a big bump or am I still in for a shock?

Hello from a fellow Marcher! I complained to a friend recently that I was feeling HUGE, and then I met up with her and she said "Oh, you're not big at all, you've just forgotten how much bigger you're still going to get". Gulp!

I think in theory the growth slows down at the end. Certainly first time round I never felt really truly enormous. It also really depends on your shape, and how you carry the bump.

I read somewhere that when they measure your bump it is expected to be roughly the same number of cm as you are in weeks. Last Friday my bump was 32cm, and I'm 32 weeks, so that would fit. Can't remember if that continues up to 40 weeks.

I don't think you can really predict how big you're going to get.
Like you I had a squirming baby under my ribs at about 32/33 weeks... am now at 38 weeks and it HAS got bigger! however, the baby has dropped a bit now so the kicks in the ribs are not quite so bad!
I didn't really notice my bump getting bigger but other people were commenting on it and then one day i looked at myself side on in a mirror and thought "f**king hell i'm huge!"
I think you'll just have to wait and see though

you're in for a shock PMSL

when you can't breathe any more and feel like you want to pee all the time then you've probably got a couple more weeks to go

My babies have been under my ribs for several weeks now, are my bump is still getting bigger. I'm 27 weeks, measuring 32. With my past two single pregnancies I carried on growing til abt 38 weeks. I dont think it feels so bad though, cos it goes outwards rather than upwards. Have fun!

leogaela, the last 8 wks are when you grow the most (in my experience anyway) so even tho you cant imagine it you will get bigger

This sounds bad!!! Is pidge right that at 40 weeks my bump will be 40cm????

My ribs have been getting really sore for the past few weeks now when sitting and I am already going to toilet every half hour.

I'll have to have alook a that bump gallery in private later.... or am I better to not????

I sympathise Kelly! Phew, can't imagine how it would be to have multiples!!!!

yuor bumps is supposed to match in cm the no. of weeks you are (that what my mw used to say when she measured me) so yes, when you are 40 wks your bump will be 40cm! although dont worry if you are not its not an exact science and everyone is different!

Best tip is never to look at yourself in a mirror - otherwise you really won't believe it possible that the baby is ever going to get out!

Leogaela, the singles section isnt too bad, it's quite fun comparing!

Pidge, when the baby actually came out I could never believe it actually fitted in there! espec my son, who was 10lb7. I know I've got two in there now nearly 2 lb each, and I can't imagine where there is room for them!!

That's true, its really strange to imagine there is a whole baby inside my bump! Don't want to think too much about how it is going to get out!!!!

It was a bit depressing to actually grow out of all my maternity clothes!! In the end I was wearing dp's....

bakedpotato · 11/01/2005 11:39

am i right, at the end the baby is mainly piling on the weight -- rather than growing skeletally? judging from how knackered i felt, mine was doing a huge spurt last week (36/7 wks). i swear i could SEE the bump expanding.

i only get stretch marks in the last month.

Report
nailpolish · 11/01/2005 11:42

think so bp. everything has developed as far as it has to and all the babe is doing is putting on the lb's!

i only got my stretch marks in the past few weeks too! it sucks!
I thought I had done so well with my cocoa butter and everything and then BAM... there they were!

Beansprout - dp's maternity clothes?? I can't fit into dp's clothes already.

bakedpotato - I'm jealous, I've already got loads of stretchmarks coming. I can't actually see them cos they on the underside of my bump, but I'm going to look a state by the end of all this.

I keep thinking the stretch marks are coming, but so far, so good, except strangely on the bottom of my boobs, that happened weeks ago (but they went from a c to an e almost over night!). My mum has really really bad ones though - she claims that she didn't get them until her 4th child (me!), but she has a funny memory for things!

I was Huge, at 34 weeks my mum was convinced that as I was so big I must have got my dates wrong and baby was going to come then. I did however go the full 40 weeks and continued to get bigger by the second, sorry

I thought I was huge at 32 weeks on number two until I tried on my maternity swimsuit and the damn thing was hanging off me where it had stretched the first time. That was a serious 'gulp!' moment!!

Good luck with everything Leogaela.
