Anyone else on aspirin 150mg?

Hi,
I will be 40 when the baby is born and also a FTM so the midwife said I need to be on 150mg of aspirin. I had first appt with Dr at the hospital who said that I only need to take 75mg not 150mg. I had 16 week appt with the midwife and she said no the guidelines had changed and it was suggested that I take 150mg not the 75mg and double checked it with another midwife. Anyone else on aspirin as a precaution and what is the dosage? Also I have been having headaches and mentioned this to the midwife - she just said it is normal and BP was ok. Can you take paracetamol while on aspirin (But not at the same time). Thank you.

Hi, I'm also on 150mg of aspirin due to the fact my mum had preclampsia when pregnant both times, it's as a precaution to prevent preclampsia for me, so far it's lowered my blood pressure between appointments and the dosage is fine according to my hospital and midwife, not sure about paracetamol with it maybe ask your midwife that one xx ❤️

I'm on 150mg of asprin, too - I was pregnant earlier this year (ended in MMC) and was told 75mg then but at my booking appt this time the midwife said the guidance had changed and put me on 150mg. Mine is also because my mum had pre-eclampsia and it's a 'first' pregnancy.

Not too sure about paracetamol, sorry! A pharmacist might be able to help?

With my daughter in 2018 I was on 75mg aspirin from 12 weeks due to a placenta issue (low PAPP-A).
Currently 29 weeks with baby boy and told to take 150mg from 12 weeks this time as guidance had changed.
It was only ever mentioned once, never checked up on other than the usual BP checks. Had a couple of dizzy spells but had them on the lower dose too. No issues so far and baby boy is growing much better than his sister did. I've taken the odd paracetamol for headaches which midwife said was fine 🙂

Thank you @babydust2412, @SkyBlue20 and @popshell for your help. I did think the midwife was probably more up to date with the guidelines but I think the Dr at the hospital was just going by the sheets in my green notes as they hadn't been updated since the guidelines changed. Just reassuring to know that others have are on the 150mg due to changed guidelines. I think the off paracetamol would be ok - I have avoided having any for the headaches but this is a daily basis now so think I will try and see if they make a difference. Will leave a gap between it and the aspirin.

I was on 75mg of aspirin in 2018 when pregnant with DD and now I’m on 150mg of aspirin in this pregnancy. I did suffer preeclampsia right at the end of my 2018 pregnancy but midwife said the higher dose is recommended for pregnant women now.

You’re fine to take paracetamol with it too, just avoid ibuprofen as you aren’t meant to take it when pregnant

I'm on 150mg as 40 and a FTM too, I saw the notes in the packet said a 75mg dose was recommended so I asked my midwife when I saw her again and she confirmed it was 150mg, apparently only changed recently

Yup, same here 150mg as there are new guidelines 😊 had to phone my GP for a repeat prescription as they wouldn’t sell me it in the pharmacy because I was pregnant 🙈😂 he was shocked at the 150mg dosage too so went away and checked and phoned me back to confirm that 150mg was correct. Think he though I’d just been double dosing for the last 18 weeks 🙈😂

Thank you @Thegirlhasnoname, @Gardenermumtobe and @RWK29 for replying and the fact that you are all saying the guidelines had changed is reassuring. The midwife did check with another midwife yesterday to make sure but as the hospital Doctor had said 75mg it was like he was still on the old guidelines and the fact that the folder in my notes had not been updated and still said 75mg. Didn't want to be overdosing if I didn't need to.

150mg is definitely the correct dose now.

Paracetamol is absolutely fine.

I remember my consultant saying that the dosage of aspirin to treat a headache or act as a painkiller is stronger than 150mg so you should be perfectly fine to have paracetamol. Believe it’s 1000mg Of aspirin for migraine relief

I’m also on 150mg due to my BMI, in my blue folder it said 75mg but my midwife said that was old guidance now so had scribbled it out and wrote 150mg instead. I got mine on prescription from GP as I could only find the dissolvable stuff in pharmacies and can’t stomach that 🤢

I’m on 150mg too. My midwife told me the recommended dosage had changed recently too, so I do think it’s new guidelines.

Yes, I'm on 150mg in this pregnancy due to last minute hypertension in first pregnancy.

I've been taking it since 12 weeks and got a letter this morning booking me a scan at 34 weeks to check all ok and some extra appts to monitor BP - anyone else?

I’m on 150mg for an elevated clotting risk. The gp put me on 75mg at the beginning but this was increased a week later to 150mg by the midwife due to the updated guidelines as others have said.

My antenatal consultant wrote to me this week to say I should start aspirin and continue for the rest of my pregnancy. Her attention to detail does not fill me with confidence as I am now 18 weeks and at my 12 week appointment with her we discussed the aspirin and she even noted it in her summing up letter to me (I was referred to her specifically for the clot risk).

However, one useful thing she did mention in the latest letter, that neither the gp nor the midwife did, was that it is best to take the aspirin at night. I was randomly aware of this already due to another poster on here but it might not have been mentioned to you.

For the headaches, sometimes you will feel you need to take something but when they are not so bad you might find a dab of lavender oil on your temples and just under your nostrils helps (Or on a cloth to inhale if you prefer not to put on skin). Sometimes I catch a headache early enough this heads it odd.

Best wishes for your pregnancy

Ps don’t mean to sound judging about taking headache tablets, sometimes it is totally necessary. I suffer from migraines but thankfully have not had any during pregnancy, only one bad head has which it took paracetamol for.

I’m the same 150mg. Was originally out on 75mg by the GP but midwife and consultant changed it due to update guidance.

Anyone who is taking It at what point do you stop? I got told 34weeks by one midwife and 36 by another? I’m currently 32weeks.

Report
IDK2020 · 25/08/2020 21:30

@DressingGown87 I’ve been told 36 weeks by the consultant but don’t know if it varies depending on the reason why you’re taking it.

@DressingGown87 @IDK2020 I’ve asked this to every different midwife that I’ve spoken to and every single one has told me to take it until I go into labour 😳 doesn’t seem right to me at all but I’ll check again nearer the time!

DressingGown87 · 25/08/2020 21:58

@IDK2020 @RWK29 thank you both! I would have said 36weeks too. I wouldn’t think up until labour would be a good idea either! I’m on Fragmin too, and they have said that’s up to 48hours before my induction, and 6 weeks after birth.

@oldermama2021 sorry to gatecrash your thread with a different (but asprin related) question.
