MNHQ here: are you pregnant? Fancy trying out Mumsnet Pregnancy Advice on Amazon Alexa?

Hello

We’ve recently launched our first-ever tool on Amazon Alexa, and if you’re Alexa’d-up we’d love you to give it a go and let us have your feedback.

Mumsnet Pregnancy Advice shares relevant pregnancy info daily throughout your pregnancy - from how big your baby is, to managing symptoms, to how to prepare for labour. Each tip is followed by words of wisdom or reassurance from those who’ve been there - other MNers.

We’d love you to try it and let us know what you think. You can either use your wake command (usually “Alexa”) - “Alexa, open Pregnancy Advice” - or you can search for “Mumsnet Pregnancy Advice” in the Alexa skills store. You’ll need to enter your due date and then you’re all set. If you don’t know your due date, you can find out using our due date calculator. For info on how we treat this personal data, read the FAQs privacy policy in our FAQs.

If you don’t have an Amazon Alexa device, you can still use the skill by downloading the Alexa app on your phone on the Apple Store or Google Play.

We’ve got more information in the FAQs here if you need it. Please do try it out and let us know what you think. And if you like it, we’d really appreciate you leaving a review - it helps make the skill more visible to others.

Thanks
MNHQ

My first thought is hell no! The world is already full enough of unwanted advice directed at pregnant women...there's just no need to add to it.

But I might be in a better mood when it isn't Monday....

Sounds horrendous to be honest.

Seems as if this would be a great free way for Amazon to gather valuable data.

Absolutely not.

This is glitchy so far.
“Alexa, open pregnancy advice”
“Welcome to mum-snit’s pregnancy advice”
So, Alexa can’t actually say “mumsnet” probably something to be tweaked.

I gave the app my due date and it miscalculated my weeks pregnant.
I’m due on 22/Aug. I am 14weeks and 3days.
The app says I’m 16 weeks and 4 days.
Perhaps the algorithm that calculates the weeks from the given due date needs changing so that a due date is 40 weeks rather than 42 weeks?

The advice? I’ve only listened to one and it’s not “relevant” for 2 1/2 weeks!

Like PP I put in my due date and it is saying I am 9 weeks when I am 7, so the tips aren't really relevant.
I quite like the idea but it's useless if the tips are wrong!

Awful idea. Woman have a midwife for advice which will be researched base sound advice. Apps are an awful idea and Alexia even worse.

I just tried it and liked it although I'm not pregnant!

But I did wonder, once set up how easy it is to stop/deregister if you miscarry.

I assume it has a simple command but I didnt want to go through a fake registration to uninstall the data incase it was a real palava. Which made me think of those who sensitively might need to do similar.

Often these things are a total nightmare to work through. A small post advising how to stop the service in this thread might also help Flowers
