0.1% alcohol wine during pregnancy?

squiglyline · 28/01/2018 17:11

Soo I’ve been looking for alcohol free wine/ sparkling wine that I can drink while pregnant.

My family have a drink at every occasion and would notice straight away if I’m not drinking.

What I want to know is... is alcohol free wine which says less than 0.5% and less than 0.1% okay?

No rude comments please. 😁

Absolutely fine you could probably have the entire bottle. Personally, having tried them all it is cheaper to just buy grape juice then have one nice glass of actual wine.

If you like lager I find the non alc Heineken and Bud the nicest

Thanks@StealthPolarBear haha I know! That’s why I said no rude comments. Although I know some will still come.

I read in another forum that the 0.1% stuff you would need to drink 50 bottles to get the same amount of alcohol as in one beer. Not planning on drinking that much though haha!

Thanks for your replies. X

Will they not notice that what you're drinking is alcohol free?

Meant to add, I agree with others, that would be absolutely fine I'm sure. Congratulations on your pregnancy!

It took me until 35 weeks to find one I actually liked and tastes vaguely of wine/fizz which is the Sainsbury’s no alcohol fizz, they also do a red and a white. My DH says the red is OK and we haven’t tried the white. All the others are far too sweet and sugary for me as I like dry wines.

I ended up mostly drinking water but also got a bottle of juniper syrup which makes a decent-ish fake g&t with lots of ice and lime/lemon.

No alcohol lagers/beer are definitely better, the new Bud one is quite nice. Tesco have a dry January section just now with quite a lot of choice.

An occasional glass of wine won’t hurt (everything in moderation)

0.1-0.5%.....You probably drink more alcohol when you accidentally swallow a bit of mouthwash in the morning

Absolutely fine, but I found the non alcoholic wine insanely sweet. Agree with Leather, get a nice grape juice. I was designated driver to cover the lack of drinking, now I rarely drink so folk don’t assume anything Grin

Over on the Dry January thread, we have found the best ones to be Sainsbury own brand sparkling white and Rawsons Retreat sparkling white from Tesco. The Rawsons Retreat is the driest of the two.

I also have quite a fondness for Koppenberg alcohol free cider. The pear is the nicest.

Just put grape juice in a normal wine bottle.

Yes, absolutely fine. There’s probably more alcohol in mouthwash after you spit it out. Personally, I’ve had a small glass of wine a few times in all my pregnancies and obviously even that was fine. French women tend to drink more regularly than that. If you can get away with it though, tonic with a lemon looks more realistic if you ever have a ‘gin and tonic’. The non alcoholic wine looks and smells like grape juice so might not be very convincing.

Nothing wrong with the odd glass of proper wine. I would just have one, or drive and have none assuming you drive of course!

Can you fill up a screw top bottle of wine with grape juice or apple squash? Something that appears to be wine but isn't?

Appletiser looks like cava! 🥂

Thanks for all your suggestions. I’ll check out tesco and Sainsbury’s. I got an Asda Fré Chardonnay to try tonight but it’s sickly sweet.
We will tell our parents at 8 weeks once we have our first scan ( due to pervious mc) so they will pour my drinks without other guests knowing :)

Brew Dog Nanny State is a really lovely alcohol-free beer.

I had the echo falls white and rose wine they were 0.5%, they weren’t really my thing though so mixed them with lemonade and were lovely

Yeah, you'll be fine with those types of non alcho as that's as close to non alcho as you can get.

Fyi - the only decent ones I've found are the Sainsbury's non alcho prosecco / sparking wine and Becks blue. It's all down to personal taste though.

You’re fine! I second the becks blue and the rawson’s retreat sparkling wine from Tesco.
