Cravings anyone?

I have just eaten nearly my weight in satsumas. I don't think it's a craving as such but they taste amazing - I have also been rubbing the zest on the insides of my wrist for some unknown reason other than I can't get enough of the scent of heaven.

Last pregnancy I carried a bottle of sparkling water wherever I went. I HAD to have Twister ice lollies in the beginning weeks and would eat fruit by the bucket load.

Pregnancy before that I had marmite on everything. I used to be obsessed with the smell of wild orchid floor cleaner and the super cheap Aldi bathroom cleaner - I'd scrub the bathroom, run a bath, and sit and sniff the cleaner whilst in a fumey room of joy.

Anyone having or had mad cravings? Are my demands for satsumas a way of easing this bastarding morning sickness?

Oh marmite and strong cheddar toasted sandwiches.
Had to go out and buy a toastie maker yesterday.
Got through half a loaf of bread in an afternoon!

I hate a whole large red pepper in the space of five minutes one day last week. I definitely wouldn't do this in normal life so it must have been a pregnancy-related thing!

I wanted to fill a paddling pool with fruit salad in my last pregnancy, during the summer, and then duck my head under and let my mouth fill up with the fruit.

In the early days when I was feeling very sick and had bad indigestion all day, I also wanted a metal cup of Mumbai tap water, like you get in inexpensive restaurants there. I was convinced it would end all my digestive discomfort. I bought an Indian metal cup and was trying to work out how I could get some water that tasted right. The water in Mumbai always tasted to me a bit swimming poolish and also like the dusty smell when it suddenly rains heavily after a spell of hot dry weather. I thought about going to the swimming pool with a towel tucked inside my costume to soak up lots of water, wringing that into a bottle and then putting it through a new Brita filter that hadn't been rinsed through to add the dusty taste but I didn't do it.

It didn't help that DH took me to the cinema to see the second Marigold Hotel film that features a scene with Judy Dench sipping water from a metal cup on a rooftop in Mumbai. That really made the craving much worse. I can remember nothing else about the film at all!

This time nothing much so far except that I'm a bit more keen on dairy products than usual.

Lol I could have written that in the first trimester!! I had a major crush on satsumas - took several in my handbag on days out and we had to search Prague for somewhere to buy them too when on holiday!! I'd eat them in my car too and leave the peel in there so i could sniff it.

My other things are sparkling water, ice lollies, Marmite and toast lol!

Cheese in my first pregnancy! I ate at least 4 babybels a day, plus anything cheese flavour (wotsits, quavers, cheddars... whatever I could get!)

Cola bottle sweets this time round, but only for the first few weeks. No cravings since then though (37 weeks now)

The smell of petrol. I'm loving stopping for fuel (& then letting the last drop drip onto my hand so I can carry on sniffing)

I've got a thing about fresh fruit as well.

In my first trimester I had a thing about vegemite. I think the vegemite/marmite thing are our bodies crying out for vitamin B.

No cravings really, but in the summer before I got pregnant I think my body wanted to stock up on omega-3 and vitamins, because I inexplicably craved fish by the shed load (had no meat at all) and used to have whatever fruit I could get my hands on (incl. having to buy fruit juice when we went to France, just couldn't wait).

Weird.

Since then I've loved tomatoes, but other than that nothing.

Cold satsumas were my main source of food during my pregnancy with dd I could eat 2 packets a day, straight out the fridge. Lost a tone of weight and dd was a healthy 7lbs 11oz.
This time round I'm on the starchy carbs, white bread, crumpets and butter and crisps (preferably in white bread!)
Hoping this will change as it's so unhealthy but all I can bare to eat!

Oh lord I love cold, sour or juicy food. My dream meals would be a bowl of cute up fruit like oranges, watermelon, kiwi...Then a tomato salad with vinegar dressing. A fresh crunchy red pepper. Some pickles and sauerkraut. And maybe a homemade ice cold banana milkshake with whole milk and frozen bananas.

AND I've got through a jar of marmite in the last month.

How funny crombanna - you have basically just described what I have been eating as snacks for the past two weeks: lots of juicy fruit like melon, mango, strawberries, peaches. Lots of red pepper (just on its own) and I've had a banana milkshake (made with bananas, milk and a little sugar) every single day!

I'll leave the pickles though - terrible heartburn here from baby's head digging into my upper digestive system.

Wow these are so interesting! Just out of curiosity can I ask whether you ladies had a girl or a boy with your particular cravings?

Am still in the epic nausea phase at the moment so it's currently more about avoiding anything that makes me feel sick rather than wanting particular things.

However twiglets are the best things ever at the moment

I had a cold peeled apple with a bit of marmite on it the other day.. Blush

I actually dragged my DCs to three different shops to try and find twiglets and nearly cried when they didn't have any! At that point it was all I could contemplate eating. Thankfully the next Tesco order saved me.

I found out at my (dating) scan the other day that the baby is currently not even 3cm long. Isn't it crazy how something so tiny can cause such utter havoc?!

Clementines and satsumas for me. I was on about 10 a day. Could not get enough of them.
DP was meeting me at the hospital for my 12 week scan with strict instructions to bring me another bag of clementines as I was at work and only had two left and I couldn't possibly get through the rest of the day without more and he forgot to bring them. I almost banned him from the scan 😂

Honey I was out of the house when the delivery including Twiglets arrived. I told DH that if he didn't bring a packet with him when he came to meet me, I would call the baby West Ham.
