False Labour?

I'm 34 weeks

I had diarrhoea all last night along with a bit of nausea.

I've been having Brixton hicks for ages and very frequently (normal for my previous pregnancies)

I had the normal Brixton hicks last night but these were far more painful - however not low down. They were regular then petered off. They were enough for me to grab the bed and breathe through.

Ended up falling asleep - today the diarrhoea has gone but I'm still getting these painful contraction like things (theybdont last for as long as expected and seem to start as a peak rather than build up)

I went to over 42 weeks with my previous pregnancies and was induced...

How many contraction type pains per hour should I look out for? Really can't be bothered driving the two hour trip to the hospital with two kids only to be turned away..

If they genuinely hurt and are getting closer together and more painful I think you should at least call the Labour ward. Is there any way your mw can do a home visit and check you over to make sure it's not real Labour?

If they hurt they aren't braxton hicks. I agree with daisy, phone the labour ward, they might want you to come in to be checked out. Is there anyone who can watch your other children for you?

They are not getting closer together at all - it's been almost 24 hours.

I just don't think I am actually in labour as things would be progressing more than this surely - and I am so early.

How far apart are they & how much do they hurt? Try taking some paracetamol and having a warm bath

Just had some paracetamol.

Will get in the bath once DH gets home. Totally irregular some every 5 minutes others 15 minutes apart.

I can't talk and have to stop what I'm doing when they happen.

I've never gone into natural labour and given my past history 34.5 weeks seems far too early!

Not getting more painful - staying the same.

I guess I'm wondering if anyone has had this and how long it lasted?

Are you constipated? Make sure you're drinking plenty of fluids, regular paracetamol and a bath. Try and put your feet up a bit if you can. Doesn't sound like labour if they're not getting closer together and are that irregular after 24hrs

Just diarrhoea. I agree - they should be getting closer together. However they are painful!

Sorry I missed that bit. It may be gastroenteritis as that causes contraction type pains. Hopefully it settles for you soon

I was in the "latent" stage of labour at 39 weeks with very painful contractions for 3 days which were irregular as you are describing. Didn't lose my plug or waters and had to have waters broken after 3 days. This was incredibly painful but I couldn't sleep through the contractions. Not sure if this is exactly the same as all labours are different but you may want a chat with a midwife xx

I'm having something very similar right now but I'm 39+1 so obviously a bit further along. My MW said it could be the early signs of labour and to just wait and see, but of course because you're a lot earlier I would ring your MW for advice or get checked out if there is any regularity to your BH

I had an irritable uterus with dd1 and dd2 first time I would get days like this from 26 weeks second time from 34 weeks. If you have an upset tummy it might have set it off along with dehydration, pain, stress. Try drinking lots of water and resting and see if they stop.

Mine were painful and every 10 minutes for days on end!

But i would call triage to be checked out just in case as you are before 37 weeks. There are testes they can do to check if it's the start of labour in which case they will want to give you steroids or they will send you home.

It's hard to tell if its diarrhoea due to the beginning of labour or a stomach bug.

I will go in tomorrow if it's still painful.

The Paracetamol hasn't helped

Dd4 is now 18 weeks and my Labour was like this. My contractions were irregular right up until she was born. During the pushing stage sometimes there was as long as 7 minutes between contractions.

The have become a bit less painful but far more regular. Sigh

I'm 38+4 and have been having painful BH like this every day since 36 weeks, they come and go but can at times be regular for a few hours despite pain killers / hot baths / etc. After about 5 days I went to get it checked out, they said it's just my body limbering up (and they expected me to go into labour within the next few days, so much for that!).

Definitely worth getting them checked out though. Can't tell you how much more peace of mind I had once the midwife had confirmed it was nothing to worry about.

You will know when it starts. I had false labour on my second and then she didn't arrive for a week. I wouldn't take any regular contractions seriously till they really make me listen after that experience. I really thought it was labour, regular contractions, but then it stopped!

Contractions died down and are back again along with the diarrhoea ugh

Are you drinking enough? When I was pregnant with dd3 (who's 2 now) j was in and out of hospital because of painful regular pains, they were easily picked up on the machine in the Labour ward. My uterus was irritable and being dehydrated made it so much worse. X

I had this with DC2 and it ended up being a UTI, but it was giving me awful contraction like pains!

I got a nasty vomiting bug when I was 34 weeks - ended up in hospital and was getting what felt like contractions. Very painful across my belly and into my back. The doctors were concerned that I was dehydrated which can apparently bring on early contractions. They gave me loads of fluids and the pain did go away. Just a thought but maybe the diarrhoea could have had a similar dehydrating effect? Have you drunk lots of water?
