Did anyone only have the 12&20 week scans?

I keep reading about everyone getting growth scans or other additional scans in the third trimester and most of my friends have had similar. I am 30 weeks and have only been offered the 12 & 20 week scans and that's it. My pregnancy is low-risk (obviously a good thing!) so I guess that's why, but 20 weeks between the last scan and the birth feels like a very long time! I wondered if you can request an extra scan or are they only for certain medical conditions?

I only had the 12 & 20 with both DC'S and that was with a loss in between. I don't know anyone who had anymore than the two other than those who when for 3D scan and paid for it themselves.

Be thankful if you only have the routine scans it means all is well with the baby.

I had extra scans:

DC1 was beech so had a presentation scan at 36 weeks (luckily turned before birth!)

DC2 I was measuring small at 38 weeks so was sent for a growth scan. DC2 was NOT small - 8lbs6oz!

First pregnancy was MMC, so with DS1 we had scans at 7 weeks, 9 weeks, 14 weeks and 20 weeks
DS2 we had one at 12 weeks and 20 weeks.

I only had the 2 with ds. Had previously lost a pregnancy at around 6/7 weeks so was really nervous the entire time- my dr tried to get me an early scan but the maternity unit wouldn't let me as I was still classed as low risk.
Thankfully all was well but I remember being crazy with nerves and counting down days/hours/minutes to both scans!

You will only get extra scans if they are worried about something. Otherwise you would need to pay if you wanted another one.

Me! Only had the two for both of my pregnancies as I was low risk.

I'm 39 weeks and have only had the 12 and 20 week scans. I'm grateful that there's been no reason to have more.

I had an early scan due to bleeding up then the normal 12 and 20 weeks scan.

People have more scans if there is believed to be a problem. Like inedam said be thankful that every thing is going well.

My first scan was a bit later than 12 weeks, but I thought I'd only have my first scan and then my second scan.
I didn't even see anyone or have any appointments with a midwife from 24 weeks until I was 37 weeks. I'd moved to a different city during my pregnancy so obviously I saw a different midwife. He insisted I went for a growth scan at 37 weeks because I was only measuring 30 weeks gestation and he was worried.
But if you haven't been told you need another scan then it's good news.
I know a lot of people like the 3D or 4D scans but I'm not a fan myself. I just don't like them, and I'd never want to know the sex before the birth either so it'd be a waste for me.

Don't get me wrong, I'm really pleased that I've had no problems so far, it just seems really common round here for people to get extra scans. I'm just a nervous pregnant person and I'm always worried that things aren't ok in there...

Some areas are trialling 3rd trimester scans. With ds1 I just had 12 and 20 weeks. With ds2 I had booked a private 32week scan but ended up having an NHS scan at 30 weeks due to reduced movements.

I got told my papp a level was lower than average not too low but borderline low. So nothing to worry about but it was just at the stage where they have to do a 28 week growth scan, I also booked a gender scan privately and I got slightly anxious at 18 weeks and booked another scan privately. The ones I booked privately weren't through the hospital they were through private companies

Yes, me. Just 2 scans with each of my 3 pregnancies

I only had the 12 and 20 week scans with all three of my DC, as I was lucky enough to have straightforward pregnancies.

Yes, only one scan with DS1 (14 years ago, before the 20 week detailed scan became routine), 2 usual scans for DS3 and DS4 - and lots and lots and lots of scans with DS2 who was eventually delivered at 31 weeks.

Be very very glad that you do not require more than the routine scans...

Thanks

I just got 12 and 20 wk scans though both times also had a private one for my own peace of mind.

Ds1 a 6 week scan as I had bleeding, but then just routine. Ds2 I was offered a 6 week scan as I had bleeding but didn't go as it was the same as before. Just routine after that.

When I had my dd (she's 8) they only offer the 12 week scan and that was it, in our area. But I got a scan before too as had bleeding. Then from 12 weeks odd that was it! I did end up getting one on my due date tho as they thought she was breach! With DS 1 and 2 I had so many with each of them as they were worried about size and also about my placenta sticking to my scar and also several due to bleeding. You don't want to be like that.

You could always pay and go private for one. They aren't very expensive now. I had a private 4d one with dd as wanted to see her as it was such a long time to wait from 12 weeks till she was born!

With my first I was only offered 2 scans in the NHS, at 12 and 20 weeks.
However, I had a few private scans in between and after which I thank my lucky stars for because a private 30 week scan picked up a growth problem.
Because of that I've been offered a scan every 4 weeks with my second.

I had extra scan with both of mine due to reduced fluid levels and slow growth. I wish I hadn't needed them as the last 10 weeks or so of pregnancy was nerve wracking. Fingers crossed my 20 week scan this time will be my last

Some areas offer a Doppler scan in the third trimester as part of a pilot. I had one last time as the placenta was in the wrong place at the 20 wk scan. This time, will just be having the two.

Yep, just two here. Was a bit odd not to have seen the baby for so long but so long as you can feel them wiggling about in there you should be ok.
