Heartburn. Omg the heartburn....

It's awful. I have taken two ranitidine (over the counter ones) and gigged some gaviscon advance. I had cereal and milk instead of dinner, drank water. I have barely slept for three nights, and ds gets up at 4.30 so scuppers the hours where I might manage to sleep.

What else can I do? Nearly 37 weeks.......

It's the absolute worst, I'm 34 weeks and I could cry with it sometimes. I've never had it before I got pregnant, no other advice sadly but I feel your pain!

Get to your GP - either for maximum dose of Ranitidine twice daily or for Omeprazole which my GP says is more effective. Heartburn and reflux are soul destroying.

My heartburn was really bad so went to see my GP and she prescribed me some safe medication which has been the best thing ever and has helped with my bad sickness (HG) too

You will have to give up tea if you are drinking it at all.

I never have it out of pregnancy either. And I have cried. I'm so so tired, ds is still only a baby, 17 months, and gets up stupidly early, doesn't nap well, heavily pregnant and can't bloody sleep due to the heartburn.

I will see if I can get to the Gp. Got midwife, and two hospital appointments this week.

This works for me,

Loads of ice cubes, lime cordial & soda water. I keep topping up the ice cubes.
I can eat cheese again without sobbing.

nexium (omapezarol) will change your life!

Honest to god it's fantastic and will stop it. I was even able to have a sausage roll, bacon butty ..

You can get it on prescription or I bought mine in Asda £7 for seven daily capsules (I think) thry take a day to settle in but it will take it all a way!!

M heart burn was ridiculous and had to sleep sitting up or it would go up my nose! Go get done nexium tomorow !

I had this and found a brilliant cure - only water after 5pm. So I ate dinner at 4pm and then only a small amount and stayed hungry all evening. But hunger was better than waking choking on reflux

Mine is awful too. I've found that some bicarbonate of soda in warm water helps to ease it for a while. It doesn't taste that great but kind of works with a herbal teabag and a teaspoon of honey to make it bearable

Ugh - it's the worst. Water is one of the biggest triggers for me, bizarrely! Lots of pillows, double gaviscon last thing and prescribed ranitidine are making it just about bearable.

Ask your midwife - mine organised the ranitidine px for me and I didn't have to see the GP as well.

Bloody torture it is! I dont have it outside pregnancy either! First pregnancy was sponsored by Rennies, and second pregnancy now it started at eight flipping weeks?! From weeks 35-42 I slept sat upright on the sofa with my legs up on the seat and using my BF pillow as a neck pillow was sooo comfy and really helped ...plus no snoring hubby win-win ;)

Oh you have my sympathy! It's so awful I didn't call mine hearburn I called it motherfucker heartburn that's an actual medical term for the extreme heartburn you get in pregnancy!
I used to take ranitidine but one morning one night and then Inbetween swigging gaviscon out of the bottle! Everything used to set it off - even water! Was so lovely the first day after giving birth eating weetabix heartburn free!
I imagine omeprazole is a good idea will work better then ranitidine-
Speak to midwife they may be able to sort you a script out without you having to see doctor. Also I found that gaviscon worked better than any generic type stuff they tried to give me.

Get the tablets, liquid, anything your doc will give you.
And I did find Mcdonalds chocolate milkshake helped. Somehow. Maybe cos it was cold and thick.

Last night was better.

Does anyone know the dosage of prescription ranitidine? My shop bought stuff is 75mg.

Seeing mw tomorrow so will ask her, if not buy nexium. Thanks all.

Can you top up with Rennie tablets when you are taking the other stuff? Really helps mine.

I'm on 150mg twice daily, sometimes topped up with Rennies. I couldn't say if that's standard though.

Go to sweet shop and buy the sourest sweets they have for a bit of relief (trust me!) then get to GP and demand omeprazole. It's fantastic.

Pregnancy heartburn is horrendous and you don't have to put up with it. I ended up in hospital malnourished, dehydrated and exhausted and choking on my own vomit because extremely conservative GP ignored, ignored and ignored me. Expected me to just put up with it and "drink milk" - don't, it makes it worse.

I begged a lovely consultant for a PPI (omeprazole is one) and thankfully, he was sensible as well.

I was up between 12.30am-3am last night thanks to horrible bloody heartburn.
It's my own fault on this occasion coz I ate a big fat Chinese for tea.

I went to get Nexium today, it's says not suitable for pregnancy or breastfeeding. Which I am both, so they wouldn't sell it to me.

Going to see mw tomorrow so will ask then. The ranitidine seemed to help last night, I took two so 150mg, and lack of food probably helped too.

I'm hungry now though.....

You over the counter when your pregnant- they probably wouldn't give you ranitidine either even though you can buy it off the shelf esomeprazole (nexium) is almost the same as omeprazole anyway so best getting it on prescription if you can. If not send someone else to buy the nexium or look offended if they ask if you are pregnant
