Pregnancy

Eight weeks pregnant - horrendous diet

Hi,

Anyone else really struggling with food at the moment? Nothing tastes right and the only things I can stomach are

  1. white bread toast with salted butter
  2. cocopops ( Hmm haven't had these for YEARS until the last week or so)
  3. lemon squash
  4. fighting a daily craving for take away chips

I haven't had morning sickness, just near constant nausea which peaks from 4pm to 11pm. I'm managing to keep my pregnancy vitamins down too which helps, but I'm really annoyed at myself for only eating utter shite - my poor nutrient deprived baby Sad

I've tried everything from tempting myself with treats to forcing fruit and veg down and nothing's helping!

Any ideas? Hoping this wears off quickly!

Honestly all you can do in the beginning is eat what stays down

I am 12+3 and still feel grim on and off but starting to slightly get my appetite back

Hello I'm nearly 11 weeks & im pretty much the same. Suffered with MS since week 6, only managing:
Toast & jam
cereal usually shredded wheat or cornflakes
Biscuits
Hard boiled sweets to take horrid taste away
crisps

I'm hoping this phase will pass soon then I can start eating normal healthy things.
xx

Don't fret - it happens to loads of pregnant women (including me). It's great that you're managing to keep vitamins down. When you think about it the baby is so so tiny that its needs are pretty minimal - you are getting calories and vitamins in so just do what you can.

Hope you're feeling better soon. I also had constant nausea but no actual vomiting and it was really depressing and debilitating.

Ah, the pregnancy sickness diet! I spent several weeks eating coco-pops, apples and coca-cola. Feel reassured that the coco-pops are fortified with iron and folic acid and so are basically a health food! Can you at least get a pregnancy multivitamin down you once a day? I found salty popcorn also quite good, but weatabix bad to throw up. Just eat what you can, and occasionally test to see if you like vegetables again.

I was exactly the same. I've never eaten so badly - coco pops, frosties, toast, sausage rolls, McDonald's. The works. Don't feel bad. I'm 33 weeks now and can eat normally again. Just eat whatever you can, when you can.

I literally just ate chips, mac donalds, bread and crisps Grin

In fact, tell a lie. I didn't eat bread, it made me sick

In my last pregnancy I lived off milky ways and pickled onion space raiders as they were the only things I could keep down.My morning sickness lasted all day every day until dd was born. The upside was I was a stone and a half lighter when she was born than I was when I conceived.

Shit loads of toast and butter, Ricicles (childhood throw back), orange juice with bits in, salt and vinegar crisps....

No vegetables!

At 6 weeks my diet is quickly becoming the same. I had spag bol at 5.30, have felt sick ever since, and had to dash to the loo pretty soon after.

I'll be going back to toast and peanut butter tomorrow.

Think I spent 3 weeks eating salt and vinegar crisps and drinking nothing but cherry Pepsi max. Your diet sounds fine!

I was on a beige diet at that point - if it wasn't beige, I wasn't interested. I went back on fruit and veg after a little while but meat repulsed me throughout pregnancy. Just go with whatever stays down.

I lived off gravy, fun size mars bars and dandelion and Burdock. I'd say you've a pretty varied diet there!

Are you on the due in November thread? We're all the same!!

Ha, love this thread. Over here (8+6) it's Rice Krispie Squares and Lucozade, pasta and cheddar, Pom Bar crisps and chocolate milk. I am usually queen of salad but this week cancelled my veg box because I can only eat trash/kid food; who knew lettuce could make you want to be sick?

34 weeks and my staples have been coco pops, cola, crisps, tinned fruit and ice pops. I've barely eaten vegetables due to sickness and if any veg does stay down I have a little dance. Baby is growing well somehow. I wouldn't worry about the diet as long as some nutrients get in and you're hydrated, then you'll both be fine.

That's normal. You have morning sickness - it covers that all day nausea - it doesn't just mean vomiting in the morning.

I had it on both my DS's until about 14 weeks - my diet was awful. My GP told me not to worry as the baby is so tiny it doesn't need a huge quantity of nutrients - and the baby will take what it needs from you. Try to take some vitamins to keep you going until you can eat normally again.

This has cheered me up as I've been eating like a hungover student recently! No actual sickness just a low level nausea which seems to be helped by eating absolute rubbish

The only things I could eat that were healthy for Most of pregnancy were plain roasted chicken, cashews and blueberries ( rather pricy habit in winter). Otherwise I lived of granola and toasties.

Come over to the due in November thread - as ladybird says, we're all the same!

Today I've eaten an entire tube of salt and vinegar Pringles. Other than that my diet consists of McDonalds, plain pasta and Diet Coke.

Hoping after 12 weeks things will improve and some greenery can be introduced! Shock

So funny to see all these replies; I was thinking my diet was weird!! Grin I'm 12 weeks and have been eating mostly coco pops, toast/crumpets with proper salty butter, chocolate milk and cheese. Not put any weight on as I'm eating less due to sickness but you just want to eat the weirdest things! I have a growing list of things I don't fancy any more due to throwing them up...chow mein, dominos pizza and my fave m&s prawn Alfredo being but a few Sad

So when I first got pregnant, I intended to eat mainly organic, with loads of oily fish to help the brain development.

In reality, I ate mainly jaffa cakes for the first 16 weeks. Sometimes I could stomach marmite on toast. After that things improved, but I was never able to eat meat or dairy at all.

I forgot lucozade....I don't usually drink much fizzy pop but I love lucozade at the moment. And totally gone off meat and fish. But managed some steak pie and a sausage baguette the other day so I'm hoping I'm coming out the other side!

curious YY - protein filled salads every day and litres of water....less sugar and refined carbs.... haha haha!

I spent an entire weekend in bed at about 16wks eating nothing but salt and vinegar Pringles and drinking orange juice because that's all I wanted to eat and could keep down!
