Pregnancy

5+2 and brown spotting. Can anyone reassure me?

I'm currently 5+2 pregnant with DC2. Yesterday when I went to the toilet and wiped I had a tiny amount of brown blood mixed in with some mucus. This morning it was slightly darker brown and there was a bit more of it. There's nothing when I wipe if I just go for a wee. I'm not in any pain but I don't really feel like I have any other pregnancy symptoms.

Starting to resign myself to the fact that this may not end well but would love it if anyone could offer any reassurance. We have really struggled to conceive this time round do feeling pretty low Sad.

I had this with my first pregnancy on and off from 7 weeks to 9 weeks. Just small amounts of brown spotting, but occasionally bigger amounts. I went to the GP who was very kind and booked me in for an early scan. My unreliable Google research said that with this kind of bleeding (brown) in 50% of cases it leads to miscarriage and 50% doesn't.

All was fine, and DC1 is nearly eight now. Brown blood is a much better sign than red blood (because it's old blood). I hope it's the same for you. I made an effort to not overdo things as well - no idea if that's got anything to do with it at all, but it made me feel better.

I had this with dd2, it was implantation bleeding I think, and it stopped after a few days.

I had brown spotting at 4, 8 and 11 weeks. I'm now 30...

I had this with three of my four of my successful pregnancies. I had a mc but that started off as pink, not brown. It's quite common to have brown spotting but it is dread inducing. Hope all is okay.

Thank you all so much for replying. I'm assuming I just have to wait it out for a couple of weeks if nothing else happens? When is the earliest they can scan?

I went to my GP and was referred for early scans which I had at about 5+4 weeks and again at 7+6. Saw a heartbeat at the second one. They will scan pretty early, just be prepared not to see very much at all.

I think 6 weeks is the very earliest they can scan (no heartbeat before that) It is an internal (via vagina) scan. I had one at about 6.5 weeks which showed the heartbeat - v. reassuring.

Okay, thank you. I'll try ringing my GP and see if they would consider making me an appointment for next week.

Rang GP and they wouldn't take my call - the receptionist just told me to go straight to A&E Hmm. Not very helpful!

I had this in my pregnancy and now have a toddler - so hopefully you'll be fine Smile

Google to see if you have a local Early Pregnancy Assesment Unit at your hospital, as they are specifically for supporting women in this early stage of pregnancy. They'll be milore helpful than A&E. You could try calling NHS 24 on 111 who should be able to best direct you on your area.

Same here.

Kind of dark yellow when I wipe, like I normally get at the start of AF (5+1). haven't really got any pregnancy symptoms now neither.

With my last baby I did have brown discharge when I wiped though at 5-6 weeks. I was so upset but she was fine.

Fingers crossed for you too BeautifulLiar. How long did it last with your last baby?

Hope it works out for all of us but I am not feeling very hopeful for me. Now getting a little brown spotting when I go for a wee Sad

It lasted for a few days.

I went to the GP, he was really nice but just felt my tummy and said he couldn't do much else.

fingers crossed for everyone - I think Brown blood is a lot less sinister than bright red.

You say there's nothing when you just go for a wee? Could it be coming from your back passage - internal piles can cause brown blood and there's mucus up there too to lubricate the exit so to speak.

I hope everything is ok.

I had this with DC2 up until about 16 weeks. I had an endometrial polyp which they attributed it to.

Thanks everyone. I spent 3 hours in A&E last night after the GP insisted that I should be checked out. Don't know anything more really but have been referred to early pregnancy unit on Monday. Felt sick all morning and have had a little spotting when I go to the loo. Still a small amount of hope but trying to be realistic.

I had it with my last pregnancy and this one. I went to the Drs both times about mine but only because mine had accompanying cramps. Turns out I have a funny uterus - meaning it's tilted back - can't remember the word which accounted for the cramps. I also had a little area of bleeding in my womb. Nothing to worry about. Try not to stress. Good luck with the rest of your pregnancy xx

I had brown spotting at 7 weeks and my GP arranged me to be scanned the next day and everything was fine.

I then had brown spotting again at 10 weeks but the scan showed everything was still fine.

At 14 weeks I had a huge bleed - fresh red blood dripping out of me and it scared me senseless. I went straight to hospital obviously thinking the worse but baby was absolutely fine. Following this bleed I spotted brown blood for about 5 days and the midwives weren't worried at all.

I was told that in the early weeks (10 weeks and under) it is very common to have brown spotting as it is just the womb shedding some lining as the egg buries deeper into it.

I'm sure all will be fine Flowers
