Cheap tests, can they be wrong? Panicking

I know I know, I'm a grown adult and should have known better! Please don't shout at me!

We have 2 small children, dh has had the snip but not had the all clear yet ( 2 months ago) and I haven't had a period since September ( PCOS, trouble conceiving the first time, took a year and a half the second time ), all that plus a bit of Christmas wine... You get the picture.

Had a bit of boob tenderness the last few weeks, so got some tests- 3 for £1 kind from a cheap shops- the ones I've always used in the past. The control line is fine, but where the test line should be is a faint pink blob- not a line as such. Can this be a faulty test? Or an artefact of some kind?

It wouldn't be the end of the world if I was pregnant, but pretty inconvenient, and abortion is not an option for me. Not told dh yet, he will be upset ( I know I know I know)

Somebody talk to me please

Can you post a picture?

I don't know about cheapo tests but I thought they all used the same basic principle, you get a response if there's any beta hcg in your wee. I would suggest another test first thing in the morning, although I appreciate the wait will be a killer. Best of luck and wishing you the result you want!

Sounds like a positive test but hard to say without seeing it. x

I had a poundland test. Was positive. She is sitting watching toy story now.
A line is a line I think !

If you got 3 for a pound, why don't you try testing again?

I've always used cheapo tests, but it's always been a clear positive or negative. It's not even a line, just a bit of pinkness! How can I be if I haven't had a period in 3 months?

Can't pee, I'm worrying so much my bladder has retracted to somewhere near my tonsils :/

Mine have always been a line, never a blob,.maybe it was some kind of mark that's become enhanced when it got wet. Drink a glass of water and try another one, does sound unlikely if you haven't had a period and your husband has had the snip though.

Absolutely not.

I was working one day I was walking past poundland and thought I will see if they have any tests bought a few very strong positive lines as I thought maybe cheap tests were wrong doctor soon after confirmed they were strong positives at 5 weeks pregnant! Smile

How did you take the test? Did you wee in a pot and dip? Sometimes splash back or taking the test incorrectly can cause discolouration on the test strip.

The cheap tests are completely reliable if taken properly. Hang on, have a drink and do another one later. Save the third for in the morning.

Home testing after 12 weeks can give unreliable results

Report
differentkindofpenguin · 06/01/2015 19:53

Can't possibly be after 12 weeks- that was before we got careless!

And you normally have a lump in your stomach by then right?

Will retest in the morning though

I would say the first one was faulty if it was a blob?

Report
ProcrastIWillFinishThisLater · 06/01/2015 20:25

Maybe the first one was faulty then. Or your second wee could've been more dilute. I think retest in the morning with first wee to be sure.

I had a pink blob on a cheap test when ttc number 2 and I was not pregnant, it is possible

This was my pound land cheapie 4 days after AF was due. I took 3 of them in total if remember rightly and none had a 'blob' so maybe it was a faulty test?

Buy a First Response and test tomorrow.

I bought cheap tests from the pound shop, tested one evening it showed a faint pink line, I got all excited, called OH to get me a better test and it was negative, I was gutted.
