Oh my God I think I am pregnant - shocked!!

Hi

This is my first post and I have no idea of what the jargon means I have seen on sites like Mumsnet, but I have to put this down in print as I am freaking out and have no one else to tell - my husband is away with work tonight!

Basically I came off the pill (Cerazette) about a month ago. After reading so much online about people having problems conceiving after coming off Cerazette, I had absolutely NO idea I would fall pregnant so soon, but I took a Boots home test when I got home this evening (mainly to rule it out as haven't had a period since coming off and wanted to have some wine!)

So the test looks like it is positive!! I'm absolutely freaking out (in a happy way - I just want to tell my husband but can't until I see him tomorrow lunchtime!) I got 2 tests in the pack so will do the other first thing tomorrow but I'm pretty sure the one attached is positive. Opinions??

So the main thing that is freaking me out in a bad way is that because I naively thought there was no way I would get pregnant quickly, I have drunk a LOT in the past month - been bridesmaid at a wedding where I drank all day, done an all-dayer in a pub, even went to the pub last night and had a couple of pints. Clearly I'm not drinking ANY alcohol from now, but I looked up the damage I might have done and am kicking myself for not being more sensible. I am likely to be maximum 3.5 weeks pregnant by my calculations (hard to tell when I haven't had a period though).

I was convinced my period was coming and am also kicking myself for not taking a test sooner - but I had cramps the other day like they it was coming, sore breasts, had no idea these were also pregnancy symptoms!

You may be able to tell that this is the first time I have been pregnant! I'm 34 (35 in June) - another reason I thought it might take a while to get there!

I'm so naive I don't even know what to do next - do I get an appointment with a GP? What sort of exercise can I keep doing? What can I expect from here??

Any help would be much appreciated - I feel like I am bursting sat here on my own this evening!! Thank you for reading.

Congrats. Flowers.

Do not worry about your drinking before you knew. Honestly, most of us must have been conceived in pretty much similar circumstances Grin.

If you like rational arguments, you can always consider that the fertilised travels a little while down the Fallopian tubes and then has to grow its access channels to mum's before being able to use mum's alcohol blood supply.

Yes, book an appointment with your GPS, read pregnancy info online from reputable sites, and stay clear from any site or person with horror stories, just enjoy and relax.

Congratulations hun. I was on cerazette for 2 years...me and DH decided ttc..i came off the pill on the 11th Aug ( remember as it was our wedding anniversary) got a positive test on the 13th Sept..i couldnt believe it!!
I would ring your docs on mon & get an app, then go from there.
Dont worry about the wild few weekends youv had. Lol. My friend was on hol in ibiza & was drinking every night came back home feeling queezy...tested positive a week later & was 8 weeks. Everything was fine :)

Thank you both - all the horror stories I read about Cerazette just go to show how I should stay away from them as I had completely the opposite experience! I'm totally shell shocked, I think tomorrow I will go insane until my husband gets home and I can tell him! :)

I'll try not to stress too much about the drinking then - despite the fact I was so drunk I fell over on the dancefloor at my friend's wedding (Class!) Man I am excited now I have "told" someone!

Phone call to GP on Monday it is then! x

It hasnt even connected to your blood supply yet. Its the size of a quarter of a lentil.

Congratulations. You started taking folic acid yet? That's probably more urgent than seeing doctor who'll probably just say congratulations and send you away for a month or two til you're ready to meet a midwife and book your 12 week scan.

I did similar. Went out with work and got smashed. Found out I was pregnant 2 days later!
They're not connected to your blood supply yet so don't stress.
Enjoy!

Congratulations

You might like to go over to the due in January chat read which is very active already.

And most people pick up the jargon both of pregnancy and of MN rapidly. (MN acronym finder, btw, is towards the top of this page, next to the FAQs).

Same, a month off cerazette and here we are! Also was borderline alcoholic for the month before the positive, lots of birthdays, new year etc. Smoked about 30 a day too...I was terrified but everything was healthy. Like others have said, its not onto your blood supply yet! Think how many women don't find out until they're a couple of months!

Congratulations!

Congrats on the big news. Call the doctors surgery on Monday and see if they want you to actually see the GP or just the midwife, normally just the midwife (unless you have special circumstances). The midwife will normally want to see you before 10 weeks after LMP (last menstrual period) and they will use this to date your pregnancy. She should give you a date for your 12 week dating scan too but for now just breathe, take it al in and do some window shopping - buying things for baby can be expensive but sooooooooo worth it, just ask my hubbys bankcard - oh no, you cant, its broken from over use hahaha

It won't have done any harm :) I conceived pissed :p look at all the drinking as your last chance to party for a long time well enjoyed :)

By the way if you have missed a period I'm assuming that by 3.5 weeks you mean 5.5 as it's counted from the first day of your last period.

I had a hangover when I got my bfp! (Big fat positive)Grin Blush
She is now a very lively 3yo.
And yes, if you are that early on, the baby will still be feeding off the yolk sac not through placenta.
Congratulations and welcome to the worrying club. This will be your first worry of many, I'm afraid!

Congratulations - I also conceived within my first month of trying and I was dying to tell someone. Don't worry about the alcohol - I had just had a 6 day holiday in Turkey with plenty of wine, beer and raki when I found out. My munchkin is fast asleep upstairs and she's a corker.

Enjoy your pregnancy!

Well I just took another test - early morning and all that - and it couldn't be more positive! Or a BFP should I say?!

Alita7 I actually haven't had a period for 2 years as they stopped on cerazette so I am only guessing 3.5 weeks max from when I came off the pill - very hard to tell!

Unfortunately it may be the GP for me as I have a heart condition and while my cardiologist has said I should be fine to have a baby, I know I am in for extra scans etc...

PS if is still me - as I said that was my first post, have mucked about with profile and changed nickname since!

Thanks everyone for their support. Can't wait to tell the hubby later!!

How did your hubby react to these wonderful news??

Report
Frances79FirstTime · 10/05/2014 15:16

Well he came home VERY hungover from his works do. He headed straight upstairs on his way for a nap so I basically just said "I know you're really hungover so this is not ideal timing... but look..." and thrust the two sticks in his face!

He was as surprised as me that it has all happened so quickly, as like he said, he thought we would have to try for a while, but he was very excited and happy. And is now fast asleep, sleeping off the hangover! :)

Report
hartmel · 10/05/2014 18:48

Well that is good that even with a handover he is happy.

Congrats you two..

Congratulations! Don't panic about the booze, I was the same. Didn't realise I was pregnant until 6 weeks gone and I'd been having a GREAT summer with lots of booze including my sister's birthday party where I got totally trashed. Oops!! Didn't affect the pregnancy at all and my baby is now a month old and perfect :-) That said, I did stay off booze from the point where I found out I was pregnant- I figured I'd had enough for the majority of the pregnancy in the first few weeks lol You'll be fine. Good luck with everything! xxx

I drank enough to take down a baby rhino at my best friend's wedding last month so don't worry I am booze free for the next 6 months! X
