Bleeding @ 10 weeks pregnant

Hi Ladies,

Just after some advice as I'm breaking down and don't know what to do...sorry if this may contain TMI...I had a miscarriage in November so already fearing the worst :(

I started bleeding Friday morning but it was just discharge with a hint of blood and a small blood clot and I had no pains... My midwife has not got back after sending her a text as she doesn't start till 9am...

Been in contact with the hospital and they didn't seem to concerned as it was brown and it was after having inter course with my OH... But the bleeding has now turned bright red with blood clots getting bigger also it's only when I wipe and not on my liners and I do now have pain like period pain... Hospital has booked me in for a scan on Wednesday as my 12 week one is 2weeks away...

Should I worry and go to a&e to get scan??

Thanks in advance... As you can see its 3:30am so I'm not sleeping well

Charli xx

Try not to worry. I know it's hard, especially when you've miscarried before. I remember all too well what knicker checking is like.

Brown is a good sign, only when you wipe is a good sign. I'm sure I remember that when it's a miscarriage, pain normally comes before the bleeding starts.

I bled from week 6 until week 24 when I was pregnant. There are lots of completely unsinister reasons, and it could easily be one of those.

Rest, take paracetamol (I know all the reasons why you shouldn't, but if the pain is relieved you'll feel better about things and more relaxed).

Do you have an early pregnancy unit at your hospital? If you call them and explain you've had bleeding and pain then they should see you and at 10w will be able to scan you. It probably won't be until Monday though now, at the earliest.

I hope everything is okay.

Thank you for replying... My OH tells me not to worry as his concern is me more than anything...I was so positive that everything was ok all day Friday and today until late tonight and just broke down.

Hospital have booked me in for a scan on Wednesday which seems like a life time away...they didn't seem to concerned as it's not fillinging my liners... And as it's bright red than the brown this what's concerning me... As brown is good, bright red is not from what my sister has said...

OH suggested calling the hospital again tomorrow to see what they say... But I don't want to waste their time.

I really feel for you, I know any bleeding can be terrifying especially if you have had a previous MC.
But don't automatically assume the worst. Red blood doesn't always mean MC. I had a massive bleed at 12 weeks, red blood literally gushed out, taken to A&E by ambulance. Had scan next day and baby was fine. Bled constantly between 12-20 weeks but now 23 weeks and baby is perfectly healthy.
Do try calling your Early Pregnancy Unit to see if they can fit you in earlier for scan (explain you have had previous MC etc).
In the meantime try and rest and drink fluids as much as possible (easier said than done I know).
Thinking of you Flowers

Thank you that's made me feel a bit better as I've always automatically assumed red blood is bad...

The pain is nothing like when I miscarried so I'm holding on to that as my positive...

I will keep an eye on everything this morning and take it from there. I'm of work Tuesday so will see if they can rearrange for then as I'm getting my bloods done then.

I also had a huge bleed with dd now 12. I'd previously mc too so just assumed the worst, I was amazed when the scan showed she was ok.
Just take it easy and let's hope it's all ok.
Sending good vibes.

I had a big bleed at 16 weeks with dc2 who is now four

It was very scary

It was a bank holiday and no one at the hospital could scan me. But after that the remainder of the pregnancy was healthy

I had bright red bleeding after sex from about 10-20 weeks. Now 34 weeks with healthy pregnancy. I was admitted to day unit at 16 weeks with heavy bleed but told that it was down to cervix being sensitive, and bleeding if touched. Have been careful during sex since, thought a bit more about positions which don't go too deep (TMI sorry!), and all been fine. Fingers crossed for you Thanks

I'm sorry you have to go through this.

I had this in my last pregnancy and I spoke to a few friends who all (about 4 of them) said they had experienced red blood in their healthy pregnancies. One of which was actually quite heavy. Unfortunately mine didn't end well.

I wanted to post just to say that it could go either way but that there are lots of reasons why you may be bleeding despite a healthy pregnancy.

Fingers crossed for you OP. X

Thanks ladies it makes it so much easier hearing from others that have been through it and all has been well...

I'm going to hold on to the positives from you guys and try not to freak out every time I go do my knicker check...

I put it down to the fact we had had sex as It was only brown blood, but when the red stuff stared me in the face yesterday after wiping I freaked out!

Hi Duck,
So sorry it has all started up again, what a worry for you. Thanks

Do go to A & E if the bleeding is heavy and you need help with that, IME though you are unlikely to get a scan from them tonight, so thank goodness you have your scan booked for tomorrow.

Is the scan appointment in the same hospital as the A and E in case they keep you in overnight?

She is nearly two now but it was the worst week ever not knowing what would happen.

Hospital told me to go in, it's not a&e I'm going to as they have a sprerate women's ward (I'm guessing for what they said) as it's not a&e I need to register in, but they have said I will be seen, but unsure if that means a scan.

It's gonna be a long night as she told me it was really busy.

I'd be eleven weeks this Thursday, trying to stay positive but very hard after last MC just in November. Will update once I know what's going on... Thank you for everyone kinds words means a lot knowing you have others that can offer advice.

Fingers crossed for you.

I had absolutely shed loads of bleeding at just over 11 weeks. Massive gush over the floor, two days of bleeding heavier than any period I've ever had and then two weeks of brown blood.

Turns out it was a massive haematoma.

DS2 was born at 39 + 5, totally healthy and completely oblivious to all the stress caused.

I had bleeding up until 24 weeks, wasn't til I moved hospitals and I was given right dosages that it stopped. I didn't even go to hospital at first because an out of hours doctors told me it was probably a kidney infection, when I saw my own GP he was really shocked the other doctor hadn't sent me into hospital straight away.

All was fine in the end, but I've learnt to put my foot down and demand to be seen. You've every right to.

I'd suggest seeing the GP tomorrow, don get fobbed off, it's probably nothing but why should you worry after what you've already been through!

Good luck

I really hope all is ok with you. I had some blood on wiping and light cramping at just under 10 weeks and it was fine in my case. Paracetamol is ok to take (have spoken to GP twice about this as currently poorly) so use it if they advise you.

Well ladies after a very long wait last night (left at 2am) all was good news, cervix is well and truly still very much closed!

So just the scan to get through today... They said I was lucky to have an emergency scan booked for today as they have no scans left for the whole of this week... So I'd of had to of waited till next week at my dating scan to see what had been going on!

Im so happy but felt like I wasted their time at the hospital as they were so busy... But better to be safe than sorry x x
