How is everyone getting on? It feels like we've had baby gaston forever now! Rather than 6 days and I never believed when people said that!! What's surprised me most is how much longer it takes to get Ready now in the mornings!!

Place marking in the hope that I can join in soon!
How are the little ones getting on feeding and sleeping etc? I hope you new mums are getting plenty of support from those around you. I found the newborn stage so tough but just the most wonderful experience with DS. I'm really looking forward to it again.

Hi all, 10 days old and feel like Conor has always been here and in other ways I'm still in shock.

I'm wrecked tired but loving it. Struggling with breastfeeding as he was bottle fed initially in hospital so have been formula and express feeding. Find it difficult getting him to latch plus it's great that my OH is doing night feeds and feeds during the day also.

Got a lactation specialist out today and she said he is tongue tied which could affect him latching. It was stressful at times as she was showing me how to get him to latch. I didn't really master it while she was here. He did feed but with her help!

She recommended having the tongue tied sorted and part of me feels like I need to decide if I'm going to persist trying to breastfeed and get this done. Or do I leave it if I'm not. It could affect speech when older but then it might not.

I feel I'm wrecked already without being the only one feeding him all day and night.

Anyone any experience with tongue tied?

Peanut my first didn't have tongue tie, so I don't have any direct experience. But I do know several friends whose little ones have had it. They all had it sorted when they were a few weeks old. I know the NHS wait can be long in some places, and you can get it done privately as well, usually fairly quickly. Seeing any procedure done on your baby is not at all easy tho I know, but friends said it was fairly quick and straight forward to do and helped with feeding after.

I BF fed my DS for 7 months, and I know how hard it is in the first few weeks. It is really tough feeding through the night and you should do whatever feels right for you. If that is mixed feeding then go for it. I will say their feeding does soon settle down, and when my DS started napping in the day I used to have a nap too to get me through the shear exhaustion of night feeds! I found popping DS on boob very handy, but it's such a personal choice x

Moving across from the other thread following birth of DD yesterday afternoon. We're on the ward overnight and sharing shifts with DP since she will only sleep while lying on one of us!

Have managed a couple of good latches, but for the most part have the same experience as you gaston, so hard to tell how much she's actually getting!

Hi all,
I've found you. I haven't had as much time for mumsnet since our LO arrived because I'm googling every little thing she does like a crazed woman She's 6 days now.

I too have struggled with latching but today, I think we have turned a corner and it feels easier. I had to express for the first couple of days as our LO had a sore head from the forceps delivery and so I couldn't hold her to help her latch. When I started breast feeding she was then lazy at latching and sucking.
I also found it really hard to hold her in one arm and guide the nipple in with the other hand. I just couldn't get to grips with it at first. But, for those of you struggling, it will get easier.

Peanutbutter - we're doing shifts too!

Joining you guys!! Baby marmite arrived on 26th April, I ended up going into labour the day before my induction date!!
Emergency forceps delivery so feeling quite sore and we're still in hospital as both been poorly following delivery. Finding it difficult being in hospital still but know we are in the right place. Both well on the mend now and there's talk of us potentially being allowed home latertoday!! We shall see. Trying not to get my hopes up too much

Baby unsurprisingly lost a lot of birth weight with being ill and not interested in feeding so been on crazy feeding regime , expressing and cup top up regime last two days. Little lady has suddenly discovered she is interested in feeding after all now though and has been cluster feeding through the night the last two nights... absolutely shattered!!

I think no one tells you how hard BFing actually is. kitty sounds like we had very similar experiences. I'm finding it difficult taking her weight already in one arm/hand while guiding her as you say.

This is the problem with still being in hospital - DH not here overnight to help, cluster feeding through = a very lonely experience!

Marmite I have been wondering how you are. Congrats!!!! I'm so glad to hear you and your baby are okay. Sorry that it was such a tough labour and you have both been poorly. I really hope you get home today, or soon, and then you can be with your DH so he can help you out. Wishing you both a speedy recovery with lots of new born cuddles.

For BF I would highly recommend this breastfeeding pillow: m.johnlewis.com/my-brest-friend-nursing-pillow/p/231600207

It's Β£55 so not cheap, but there are lots of eBay and often local Mum's groups. It also has a good resale value, so when finished with it you could probably get Β£25 back.

It helped me immensely! I was getting terrible neck and shoulder pains and this keeps the little one in the right place xxx

Thanks dancing! That nursing pillow looks interesting too!

First night at home last and baby decided she would only sleep on one or the other of us all night! Plus cluster fed 11pm-5am .... this is full on!

Waiting in for first midwife visit today and hoping to get lots of naps!!

Have also ordered a stretchy wrap on Amazon prime this morning as think that'll make life a lot easier, she doesn't want to be put down at all. Anyone else using one?

How is everyone doing?

Thanks for the advice. Still a work in progress!

Congrats Peanut- hope you and baba are ok

Anyone have nappies that stick to babies bum? Looks really sore. I'm using the mamia ones and sometimes sudocrem but have also not used sudocrem and it's still happening. Have a pampers one on now so will see what happens

Anyone else a complete nutter and googling everything? I'm turning into even more of a crazy person and my oh is losing the will to live with me

Like yours Marmite, mine has been cluster feeding (9pm-2am) and will only sleep on one of us. Last night felt much easier than the first as we knew what to expect - we slept in shifts and didn't bother trying too much to put her down, resulting in a much quieter and happy night all around.

I don't yet have a stretchy nap, but we tried her in the babybjorn this morning and she settled really well. Think a stretchy one could be more comfortable around the house though, so interested to hear how you get on!

How is everybody doing with recovery? I know there have been some difficult journeys to get us this far!

I'm looking at slings too Marmite oh isn't that keen about the material ones. He would prefer the buckle them up to high heaven kind of ones. Going to check out a sling library to get some advice and try different ones but think it will help trying to get bits done around the house too

Thanks Peanut, and definitely with you on the googling front - I'm even worse than during pregnancy as have got so much time on my hands during feeds!

Hello ladies! Do your babies still have their cords? I'm starting to worry about DD's cord. It's really hard and ugly looking and lifts up a bit round the sides when we wash round it. It's a bit smelly too which makes me worried but we have tried so hard to keep it clean ;-(

Hi all,

marmite - yes it does sound like we had similar experiences. Funny really also remember on the other thread that you were also rushing to get building work / DIY done and we were also. It felt we had similar pregnancies too

Peanut / peanutbutter - I'm googling every tiny little thing that our LO does. It's ridiculous but reassuring. What did neurotic first timers do before google? They must have been in a constant state of panic.

Marmite - I've got a stretchy wrap that someone gave us. I just have to figure out how to use it.

Peanut - we don't have nappies that stick but something our little one's poo sticks to her if we haven't changed her quickly enough. I found bepanthan (sp?) cream better than sudocrem when.she looked a little sore.

I hope you're all managing to get some sleep.

TopKittyKat · 03/05/2017 03:20

Gaston our LO still has the cord. I can't wait for it to drop off. I haven't noticed it smelling but to be fair I haven't given it a sniff.

Gaston We're still too early for the cord to drop off, but it starting to smell is one of the signs of infection the midwife told me to watch out for.

Hi ladies, glad to have found you again!
Baby Mycat is now 16 days old, arrived swiftly after a fast labour but he unfortunately became unwell and we spent a week on SCBU. It was a very lonely experience for us, similar to you Marmite.
He cluster fed all night in the first week which was pretty exhausting as I was on my own in the hospital with him. Good news though Marmite and Peanut is that after a few days this stopped and baby Mycat now wakes for feeds 3 hourly day and night, is feeding for 10-20 minutes instead of an hour and settles quickly at night so I can get around 6 hours sleep (in 2 hour blocks)
Hope you are both better soon Marmite, finally coming home with baby was the best thing ever!

Our little baby girl was born at 1.56am this morning. I had a rather intense, drug free birth; we are both doing okay, but shattered! Like all the babies she is feeding like crazy!
