Reads:
Merry
Christmas
Season's
Greeting's

Kindly purchased by DH. It is in my porch greeting every visitor to our home blush.

Either you paint over the errant apostrophe, or you chalk another word on the path after Greeting's, though I don't know what could possibly follow.
? Here.
The greeting of the season is here?

Chewbecca Thu 14-Dec-17 13:52:18

I was trying to think of another word to add too.

Season's greeting is here sounds a bit incomplete.
Season's greeting is 'happy Christmas"? Still doesn't work.

Muddy shoes welcomed!

BreakfastAtSquiffanys Thu 14-Dec-17 13:53:39

Could you ask all visitors to wipe mud on extra apostrophe first?

StealthNinjaMum Thu 14-Dec-17 13:55:31

Can you get your dh to take it back? I couldn't live with that.

TheQueenOfWands Thu 14-Dec-17 13:58:44

Can you turn the rogue apostrophe into some holly?

I have a totally classy doormat by the cat flap which says, 'Wipe your paws.' I really feel that it needs a 'please'.

Chewbecca Thu 14-Dec-17 14:14:51

DH thinks it is hilarious, there is no way he will take it back! He knows my feelings on excess apostrophes but doesn't share them, he doesn't notice.

I think I could get to work with a sharpie, yes, fab idea.

StealthNinjaMum Thu 14-Dec-17 15:52:04

OMG. LTB, I would have to think long and hard about whether I could be with someone who did not respect my feelings on apostrophes. Do you think he did it on purpose? Show him this thread as evidence of his unreasonableness.

Chewbecca Thu 14-Dec-17 18:03:45

Hmm, good point, I need to consider LTB.

I don't think he did it on purpose initially as he wouldn't have noticed. He's been gleeful since I pointed it out.

Here is the offending doormat.

Fekko Thu 14-Dec-17 18:06:22

That's beyond redemption. I do like that roles though.

Lindy2 Thu 14-Dec-17 18:10:02

Does the print go all the way through or is it just on the top bit of the bristles? If it's just on the surface I'd be giving that extra apostrophe a bit of a haircut to try and get rid of it.
It would give me the shivers everytime I went in or out the house. 😂

Chewbecca Thu 14-Dec-17 18:15:24

fekko roles? Is that an autocorrect for something?!

lindy I've checked with that in mind, the ink goes almost to the base mat. So a trim would leave quite a gash. I think drawing on it is a better option, but my artistic skills are, well, on a par with DH's grammar skills.

TheHodgeoftheHedge Thu 14-Dec-17 18:16:19

I would literally snip the apostrophe out ;)

Fekko Thu 14-Dec-17 18:16:30

Ffs tiles! My autocorrect is a bastard.

Chewbecca Thu 14-Dec-17 18:17:13

& I am shuddering & shivering too. But laughing as well. Maybe I should use the back door until the festive season is over.

Fekko Thu 14-Dec-17 18:17:23

Of you get rid of the apostrophes then you will have a BIG GAP!!' Argh!

Chewbecca Thu 14-Dec-17 18:18:23

fekko haha, it is inexpensive lino actually.

Fekko Thu 14-Dec-17 18:20:52

Our old kitchen has tiles like that. We used to play droughts on it.

Fekko Thu 14-Dec-17 18:21:16

Droughts!!! Drafts. Bloody autocorrect.

Chewbecca Thu 14-Dec-17 18:24:23

I think it is draughts actually fblush

Fekko Thu 14-Dec-17 18:26:07

Is it? I'm sitting in a draft so maybe it's subconscious misspelling!

StealthNinjaMum Thu 14-Dec-17 18:29:08

I love the typos in pedants' corner. I almost feel too intimidated to add to a post here because it's inevitable that I will make a mistake.

BreakfastAtSquiffanys Fri 15-Dec-17 10:00:26

If the convention is that any S must be preceded by an apostrophe, surely it should be Christma's?

Teufelsrad Mon 18-Dec-17 16:34:29

It could be worse. I had to visit a client's home almost every day, and while I waited for them to answer the door, I had to spend a minute or two staring at a doormat that said 'Weclome'. It still haunts me.

SenecaFalls Wed 20-Dec-17 14:56:12

That is really funny. It must have been designed by the same folks who do the personalized ones that say : "The Smith's".
