Merry

Kindly purchased by DH. It is in my porch greeting every visitor to our home Blush.

Either you paint over the errant apostrophe, or you chalk another word on the path after Greeting's, though I don't know what could possibly follow.
? Here.
The greeting of the season is here?

Chewbecca · 14/12/2017 13:52

I was trying to think of another word to add too.

Season's greeting is here sounds a bit incomplete.
Season's greeting is 'happy Christmas"? Still doesn't work.

Muddy shoes welcomed!

Could you ask all visitors to wipe mud on extra apostrophe first?

StealthNinjaMum · 14/12/2017 13:55

Can you get your dh to take it back? I couldn't live with that.

TheQueenOfWands · 14/12/2017 13:58

Can you turn the rogue apostrophe into some holly?

I have a totally classy doormat by the cat flap which says, 'Wipe your paws.' I really feel that it needs a 'please'.

DH thinks it is hilarious, there is no way he will take it back! He knows my feelings on excess apostrophes but doesn't share them, he doesn't notice.

I think I could get to work with a sharpie, yes, fab idea.

OMG. LTB, I would have to think long and hard about whether I could be with someone who did not respect my feelings on apostrophes. Do you think he did it on purpose? Show him this thread as evidence of his unreasonableness.

Hmm, good point, I need to consider LTB.

I don't think he did it on purpose initially as he wouldn't have noticed. He's been gleeful since I pointed it out.

Here is the offending doormat.

That's beyond redemption. I do like that roles though.

Does the print go all the way through or is it just on the top bit of the bristles? If it's just on the surface I'd be giving that extra apostrophe a bit of a haircut to try and get rid of it.
It would give me the shivers everytime I went in or out the house. 😂

fekko roles? Is that an autocorrect for something?!

lindy I've checked with that in mind, the ink goes almost to the base mat. So a trim would leave quite a gash. I think drawing on it is a better option, but my artistic skills are, well, on a par with DH's grammar skills.

I would literally snip the apostrophe out ;)

Ffs tiles! My autocorrect is a bastard.

Chewbecca · 14/12/2017 18:17

& I am shuddering & shivering too. But laughing as well. Maybe I should use the back door until the festive season is over.

Our old kitchen has tiles like that. We used to play droughts on it.

Droughts!!! Drafts. Bloody autocorrect.

Chewbecca · 14/12/2017 18:24

Is it? I'm sitting in a draft so maybe it's subconscious misspelling!

I love the typos in pedants' corner. I almost feel too intimidated to add to a post here because it's inevitable that I will make a mistake.

If the convention is that any S must be preceded by an apostrophe, surely it should be Christma's?

It could be worse. I had to visit a client's home almost every day, and while I waited for them to answer the door, I had to spend a minute or two staring at a doormat that said 'Weclome'. It still haunts me.

That is really funny. It must have been designed by the same folks who do the personalized ones that say : "The Smith's".
