Would like to do something, but can't decide what!!

Can't decide between a big daytime thing with kids included, a night time party, a small group of friends to dinner, a girls weekend...the list of ideas goes on...

What did you do/will you do? Grin

I spent the day in hospital with my DD having a chest infection... was there for 3 days...

MY DH 40th was also in A&E with DD... she knew to pick the dates!

Mine is this year. I'm thinking of a 70's party at my friend's rented villa in the country that still has original 70's decor. Sorry not very original.

Dp secretly arranged my mum and aunt to visit, so I had a great birthday weekend with them and my DC. Had a family party on my birthday, following weekend he took me to a very fancy country house for dinner and a romantic night. It was lovely!

Love all the comments. I was thinking of afternoon tea with the girls at a London hotel. But I don't want somewhere overly formal as want to be able to laugh loudly and have fun. Any suggestions on a good hotel venue?BrewWine

We thought about a party.

In the end dh and I (both 40 in the same year) plus dc had a 3 week holiday in the Caribbean. Diving, language lessons, snorkelling, surfing. Was brilliant!

DH and I were 40 in the same year (last year), so we saved up and did a big family trip to New York. Was amazing, and something we'll always remember.

I'm 33 now but DH and I decided that we'd each tick something off our bucket list when I turn 40. I've always wanted to go to New York and he's always wanted to see a big boxing match, so we've promised to get saving and go to see one in New York without the kids.

Nomore - we took the kids with us, and it was amazing fun. It's actually a very child-friendly city, even for our (at the time) 3 year old!

Party, in a hall, with a DJ and a buffet.
Pretty traditional really.
Got a babysitter and really enjoyed my night. Smile

The year I turned 40 was also mine and dh 10 year wedding anniversary and dh surprised me with a fantastic 3 night stay in Barcelona. I spent the week celebrating with friends and family which included a champagne afternoon tea at a 5 star hotel, cocktails at the Oxo tower, meal at Brown's and went dressed up in 80's gear and shaked my groove thang at the Reflex in York. Whatever you decide to do have a fantasic time Rainbow.

I am 50 next year and it's our 20th anniversary in the process of planning that ....... where did the last 10 years go : )

For my 40th I was supposed to go to Venice but DH broke his leg so we stayed at home and I got pregnant.Grin We then went to Rome a few months later.

For my 50th DH booked rooms at Pennyhill park for all my friends. We all chilled and then drank a lot. It was great.

Dh's 40th - party in the afternoon at home with close friends and their kids , was lovely weather, all in the garden eating & drinking lots
Mine - all my family came round for a meal again lots of food and drink
For us it was about drinks & food with the people we care about rather than just us two leaving kids & going to a swanky hotel on our own

Rainbow I was thinking of going to Greece where me and dh went for our honeymoon. I am thinking of doing a non extravagant bucket list on a theme of '50 things to do' this will include watching, reading and eating things I have never tried before.

I'll be 40 next year. Don't want a big party (don't know that many people plus dp and I will be getting married at some point in the next few years anyway). Looking at the school calendars I think DS might start secondary school that day and DD goes back to school that day so that limits me a bit. But might go somewhere with DP at some point.

Before I met him I had been thinking of going interailing on my own - maybe I still will Grin

Turning 40 next year and I have flights to Tokyo for me and my DD. We're going to see the cherry blossom and enjoy some tranquillity and the mountains. Hopefully Kyoto and maybe some traditional accommodation. Definitely Disney and Hello Kitty Land where we will fill a cargo ship with the finest HK crap that money can buy (enough to last her till teenagerhood).

I am envious of all the people doing massive family parties. That sounds so lovely.
For various reasons that wouldn't work for me but how wonderful - a big garden full of family
