Do I want champagne saucers or flutes?

I am having some couples round for pre-ball drinks. I'm intending to seve a few snacks / canapés and champagne.

Unfortunately my DS was helping get the box of champagne glasses out of the cupboard (they're flutes and too tall for kitchen cupboards) dropped it with the result that I need new ones.

I've discovered some nice champagne saucers here but can't decide if they are too 1970's naff babycham-ish. Maybe I should stick with normal flute type style.

Need some help MN! Are saucers naff or trendy?

I prefer a flute.
I find those ones very spill-y.

I'm obsessed with finding the perfect crystal flute.

i LOVE the look of saucers, but find i spill my drink too easily.

also, flutes easier to store, tkae up less space?

Flutes definitely. I've never had more than a mouthful out of a saucer the rest usually goes down my dress when I get a bit giddy Blush. They do look lovely though.

Thank you all. I never thought of spillage problems.

Agree - spillage a big problem with saucers - very difficult to sip from - end up looking like a wide-mouthed frog.

i like the flutes with the hollow stems best of all, but they are difficult to finish elegantly cos the last inch won't come out unless the glass is practically upside down and then it falls all over your face.

like these

I think it stays bubblier longer in flutes.

A vote for saucers from me, but you have to get very nice ones and it's easier to get nice flutes.

Never drank from a saucer (didn't even know that's what they were called!) but I hate the unwieldly, top-heaviness of tall thin stemmed flutes. But, as your guest, I really wouldn't care at all.

don't you put less in saucers so you refill more often?

don't have them to experiment with.

we have flutes with fillable stems - yes you do have to raise the bottom!
and we have normal flutes ...

i think flutes make lovely bubble towers.
