Does anyone have a reasonable social life in their own right - independent of the kids? And what kind of things do you like to do?

I do! I am a member of a semi professional theatre, where I perform regularly, which is also a great way to meet people, so I have a very wide circle of friends there. Also manage to go out to pictures quite regularly with girlfriend, or with dh, and we try to go out together for an evening out about twice a month. So I suppose that's not bad.

erm yes I have an excellent social life away from my dd

I go out between 1 and 2 nights a week at the weekend. I have the occassional week night out too so really I can't complain at all.

Are you jealous

Can someone explain what a "social life" is? I've heard the phrase but have never worked out its meaning.

VillageIdiot that sounds good going to me - what kind of thing do you do at the weekends, and what is the secret of your social success?

i go out approx every fortnight to the local pub up the street with dh and play pool all night with all sorts of people - oh and get very drunk and eat samosas on the way home.

i go to my home town about 4 times a year to see my old friends and go out clubbing then.

also go to mumsnet meetups about 3-4 times a year - they are great, get to meet new people who i never would otherwise, lovley glamorous mumsnetters who are fab.

I go out as and when and every couple of months myself and the girls book into a hotel for a night, but we go 8-9am on the sat morning and come home sunday afternoon. Had last weekend away, and off out tommorrow night with the girls. Then during the day time, I do netball, and go to the gym and very occasionaly go shopping (which I hate!!). Sometimes have to take the kids to the gym with me though. And DD has been known to come out with me on a night to the karaoke bars in the school holidays. ( we live in Cyprus near Protaras so loads of kids out on the night times.)

PsyHairdresser - At weekends I tend to go just to my local I used to work there pre dd so know all the regulars I am another play pool all nighter so get to chat to loads of people.

Twice a month dd goes to her dads for a night so we tend to go out clubbing that night as I don't get her back until 3 the next day.

If we go out during the week it will just be a spur of the moment meal out with dp - that all hinges on babysitter availablity though and I never go out until she's asleep.

I go to they gym on work time then make up the hours in the evening. I do consider myself v lucky.

Actually here is one area where I can't moan about dh, he may be useless at picking up his pants, but he will always stay in if I want to go out. I go out clubbing a couple of times a year (!) with the girls. I see my best friend once or twice a month, usually a glass of wine and chat after wrk at one or others houses where the kids play. We try to go to the cinema and theatre as much as poss (once a month or less) we often eat out - but usually with kids so it doesn't count. Oh and we have the odd 'dinner party' or excuse to get totally pissed and not have o get home (or only walk if it is at a friends house in the village )

I went out last month for a drink with some female friends and I'm planning to the same again in a few months

I go out now and again clubbing with girlfriends and dh does the same with his mates.

Most of my personal social stuff is sports related. I go swimming once a week, play netball once a week am going to start up trampolining again next week (providing my pelvic floor can take it!) dh does his own things too separate from me.

Since arrival of baby no5 the chances of getting a sitter are almost zero. Before I was preg with no5 we went out every week and had an excellent babysitter who was most inconsiderate moving to the USA. dd is in training and about to get her first taste of sitting tho!!
