Anyone who quit Facebook - why?

PourMeAnotherOne · 14/09/2018 16:55

I quit months ago and I don't miss it. There are so many reasons why I got pissed off with it. I think it's turned so many adults back into attention seeking children.

Why did you quit Facebook?

I quit years ago because everyone pissed me off on it. People bragging annoyed me, people moaning annoyed me and people just doing "general updates" about their day annoyed me. I soon realised I was the common denominator because nobody on my FB could do right so I quit. I've never ever looked back and don't miss it at all. I can't stand the whole "if it's not on Facebook it hasn't happened" culture.

Me too.

I was in the pub one time and someone came up to me and said "what are you doing out? You're never out!"

Just assuming because I don't put every aspect of my social life on Facebook I never go out 🙄

I couldn't stand the bragging anymore - the shiny, happy, perfect lives everybody was so eager to constantly show off, despite knowing many of them weren't living shiny, happy perfect lives and were instead selling a complete lie. It just smacked of desperation to me. It was actually quite ... depressing. And I can totally see how SM negatively impacts so many people's MH having stepped away from it now. A bunch of grown adults needing near constant validation for making the mundane elements of their lives look oh-so spectacular. It's really sad Sad

You made spaghetti bolognese for dinner. Congratulations? HmmConfused

I don't miss at all. I'll be encouraging my 11yo DD to stay well away from it for as long as possible.

I quit 6 years ago, best thing I ever done I'd literally be on there 24/7 it nearly ruined my relationship with my OH safe to say we're still madly in love with each other and have no Facebook. Too many people on there airing their dirty laundry.

Here's another one...

Fuck off. I'm not 12.

I got sad seeing pics of everyone’s babies and children. I disliked Facebook before for other reasons (privacy issues, terrible interface, friend requests from people who didn’t stay in touch), but that’s what has really kept me away.

All the reasons above and because I really didn't give two shits if so and so was having a nice cup of tea and Costa.

Similar reasons to all of the above and just found I was wasting so much time looking at complete rubbish. Definitely became a habit but one I'm glad to have stopped.

I quit about 4 years ago for many of the same reasons. Everyone bragging, lots of lying, most people desperate for attention.
I'm sure it makes lots of people try to "keep up with the Joneses" too. I know people who go on holidays they can't afford and upload their photos I'm sure they chose the holiday destination due to FB peer pressure!

Never been on it, never felt the need. I recently went out with a group of women who were on it constantly, they just couldn't get their heads round me not being on SM. It just seems so mentally exhausting, posting everything you do, tagging people, keeping up with everyone else's business. I couldn't care less, I'm very happy in my sheltered, peaceful little worldGrin

It's just so fake - a projection of people of how they wish they were seen rather than their real mundane lives. I found myself wondering why I was spending so much time looking at the lives of people I wouldn't even speak to in the street.

It does nothing but make you think your own life must be shit. Honestly, if your life is fulfilled and enjoyable, the last thing you would do is waste your time posting about it on social media.

The final straw for me was my neighbours who would scream at their kids on a daily basis and sounded thoroughly miserable yet they would post on FB about this blissful family life. I think the more people post about how amazing their life is, the more the opposite is probably true!

I want to quit but don’t know how to get my photos from it apart from saving them one by one.

I would quit but it’s the only way locally to (1) find out what is happening (2) sell off unwanted bits (3) pick up free stuff from others and (4) my volunteer and parent groups have it as their only method of communication!

So I’m stuck with it for about 10 more years :(

I’ve minimised what appears and the data on it to the nth degree though. And reduced my time on it by just not carrying the ‘phone.

Quit it 3 years ago. Same reason as been mention here really. Fed up with everything about it. And would find my self having conversations with people saying oh did u see what X wrote on Facebook. I didn't even really know X so don't even know why would want to know what they were doing.

Because my marriage broke down and people I'd not seen in years were pm-ing me asking 'You ok hun' once ex started posting photos of his new relationship. So intrusive and transparent and it made me wonder why on earth I bothered having the damn thing. Deleted it two years ago. Don't miss it.

When you walk into work and everyone is on it on works time, before they got tight on going on it at work. Loads of passive aggressive comments. Having 172 friends one day then having 160 the next (did I forget your birthday so you blocked me) my husband's family live on it. The first thing that will come out of their mouths "ooh did you see what your sister/nephew/cousin did, it's on Facebook!?" Those stupid "making memories" posts. The fact my mil was devasted the other day when no one wished her a happy anniversary, then when someone did everyone else followed on that post. Mil was distraught no one could post an independent message, just liked and added to the starting post.

I've not quit quit but I've deleted the App so I probably only look once a month instead of every day. Reasons are:

People showing off way too much

People over sharing their kids and babies lives

Racist in laws sharing EDL shit

Vaguebooking and its subsequent "u ok Hun" responses

The "share if you love your kids/mum/sister/grandmother. Like loving a relative is a massive achievement.

People and their stupid opinions on everything

#blessed (#fuckoff)

I honestly can't scroll down for more than 5 seconds without realising I hate someone and all they stand for!

Because I compared my life to that of others and that didn't help my MH at all - was suffering with anxiety and depression. It will be over two years now since I've been on it and I don't miss it at all.
