Absolutely livid and petrified

Bollocks. That's all.

I have just been to the supermarket and had my card declined. One week after payday. I have come home and rang the bank and some bastard has used my card online to the tune of almost 2.5K Shock

I was furious at my bank for allowing this to happen - surely it looked suspicious to them that it was being used abroad and in the UK at the same time.

I am even more furious at the bastard who has helped themselves to my money. I am now absolutely skint for the rest of the month. They did leave me with £19 to live on.....how fucking kind of them.

How embarassing having to walk out of Tesco's without any shopping. Aaaaarggggghhhh. I have been ill recently and wasn't feeling too great today and this just finished me off. I burst into tears at the checkout mumbling to the lady that I had no idea what was wrong and I would call the bank to sort it and come back in and pay. I didn't go back in because I couldn't pay.

Luckily most of my bills have been paid for the month but I've got nothing left at all. No petrol money, no food money and nothing to live on. Sods law too that 3 months ago I cut up my credit card so don't even have one to use.

My bank won't give me an overdraft even though they know that it is obvious what has happened. I have to wait for them to investigate and they will refund the money but it could take 'up to six weeks'.

So......I have 4 potatoes, a chicken, 2 apples and half a pint of milk for the month. Has anyone got any miracle way of making that spread for 25 days?! Grin

Feel free to ignore, I am so bloody angry and just having a rant. I am terrified now of this month and how on earth I am going to manage.

I am ill, my mum is ill and I have been looking after her this month after she was admitted to hospital, she is 300 miles away, I am about to lose my job. Can anything else go wrong for me?

Did I mention that I was pissed off? Angry

I think you need to go to your bank in person tomorrow morning and give them hell. This is totally unacceptable and they should be thoroughly ashamed of themselves.
Bastards - thieves and banks (is there a difference! Wink)

I can't believe the bank won't help you out with a temporary overdraft. What dicks. If I were you I'd demand to see the manager, that is horrendous customer service when it's obvious what has happened.

The bank should be able to do something to help you. Sad

Oh love, I know it has no cash value and that what you really need right now but here have an very unMN hug xx

What an awful awful situation to be in. Card fraud effects so many lives :( It's so unfair.

I'm sure someone will come along with practical advice and help , but I just wanted to offer sympathy.

Your bank jolly well should have realised what was going on! Mine are very on the ball about that, I found myself unable to use the card my making several transactions whilst on holiday because they thought it was suspicious

Really horrible situation Angry Hope you get a refund very quickly

The bank won't - I have pleaded with them. I rang the call centre first and spoke to the fraud department eventually. Then I rang my own branch and spoke to the branch manager - apparently they can't just give out overdrafts because of this. Crap they are. Santander are bloody idiots.

Ugh! Santander are THE most unhelpful bunch ever. So sorry for this nightmare OP. May I ask where in the country you are?

Report
dwpanxt · 01/08/2011 18:26

I was shocked until you said it was Santander.I hear similar (although not such a large amount ) stories most weeks and its always Santander.Angry

But back to you.

What help do you need right this moment? If you are nearby I can drop off some stuff to help you out.

I know you werent asking for help and were simply venting but its practical help you need until the bank pulls it finger out.

I know Santander are awful. As soon as this mess is sorted I am going to change my bank account. I haven't been happy with them for a while, the customer service is shite.

Thanks fishandlilacs Smile

Speak to your bank, exactly the same happened to me a few months ago (I posted about it). My bank refunded the money back into my account immediately. My only problem was it took them five weeks to get a new card to me.

They did compensate me after I kicked up a massive stink Grin

Does your house insurance cover the loss???

I would also be at the bank tomorrow and speak to the manager or at least someone who has the authority ...

What a shit thing to happen!! Do you have any idea how your card was cloned??

You need someone on your side.

Can anyone remember the name of the guy that does the financial help section in the Saturday Times? He's always good at getting companies to cough up after they have cocked up.

Luckily I don't have dc's to feed, just a DSD who is due to visit me in a week. I've got my mobile phone bill to pay too but I will have to ring them to sort something out, they will have to wait. I've got a wedding to go to as well at the end of Aug too and needed to buy a gift etc - I will be paid again before then so can do that with next months wages, it just means that it will all have to be last minute.

Can't borrow off family - one brother overseas working and my mum doesn't have it - she only lives off her state pension. The only friend who could help me out left for her 3 week holiday 2 days ago. It never rains but it pours eh.

A payday loan scares me - the interest on it is so bloody high that it will just leave me in a mess next month too.I'll sort it out somehow, not sure how, but I will have to sort something quick. Just needed to rant about it.

My neighbour has just been round to give me a plant cutting and caught me mid rant on the phone. She very kindly just offered me some food provisions when I need them (after tonight!), which is so thoughtful of her and will help, but I hate accepting it. I just need my OWN BLOODY MONEY BACK Angry

I would go into the bank, kick off a real fuss, cry and refuse to leave until you have enough money to see you though.
Terrible behaviour on their parts

Report
Al0uiseG · 01/08/2011 18:36

Thats really terrible, especially as my friend had her Santander card used in Mauritius Confused while she was in England yet Santander called her within the hour after the first transaction. They clearly have the powers to recognise and follow up a fraudulent transaction but not for you it seems. Give them hell.

Can I suggest you post this on the money saving expert forums too? I am sure there are rules that the bank must follow in such cases and they just can't leave you with no money.

Google it too to see if answers come up on the likes of yahoo,.

Oh you are all lovely. Thank you for your offers of kindness. I honestly wasn't posting for help though (been on MN years and never had a thread like this), I just needed to let off some steam to someone and felt like my ooor neighbour had heard enough Grin
