Cost per day for nursery place - does this price seem about right?

ust want to know what most people pay for their nursery places - am looking to put my DTs (aged 2) into nursery as am going back to work part-time soon.

Have just been quoted £43 per day (8am-6pm) per child although will get 10% discount for 2nd DT. This includes all meals and nappies, wipes, etc. Or they can offer half day sessions at £25 per child.

Does this seem like an okay price? We have no idea what the average cost is! If it helps, we are in Kent - don't know if there is much regional variation!

I'm in a large town near Edinburgh and prices here are about £35 per day but doesn't include meals, have to send a packed lunch.

So £43 doesn't seem unreasonable.

Christ, that's a lot! The nursery dd2 goes to is subsidised so v cheap but I think the most I've heard anyone pay is £39 (and I was at that per day but I'm in Manchester so maybe that makes a difference.

Sounds good. We're in Lewisham, SE London, and pay £55 (hours are 7.45-6.30, dd is there 8-6), which is probably cheaper than some other parts of London. Food included, but not nappies and wipes. It is a very popular nursery (justifiably imo), and hours are slightly longer than some others, too. Cheapest in our area seems to be around £47.

In Surrey ours is £51 for 8-6. Food included, not nappies or wipes.

Ours is £31 per day or £19 per session and a further £2 a day if you want meals provided too.

Ds's nursery is £50 full day and £29 half. And in (S) Manchester too!!

Thanks all, that is really helpful to have some comparisons. Sounds like it is not bad for South East, seeing as it's all-inclusive. I am just bit shocked - was hoping to maybe have some money left over from my part-time job but now wondering if it'll end up costing me to work... grrr!

Is it worth looking into tax credits to see if you qualify for the childare element? Barleycorn, £50 a day is absolutely shocking! We pay £29 for a full day, and dd2 is getting a free Salford accent into the bargain

i am in kent and we pay £34 per day for under two and £32 for uver 2, inc all meals but not nappies

reikizen, thanks but we don't get family tax credits - but we do get some vouchers through DH's work which will help a bit.

missmapp, that is quite a lot cheaper per day! maybe I should ring round some other places but this particular nursery is so close to home and workplace - couldn't really be more convenient. Hmm, will have a think!

In Hampshire. My dc's nursery is £41 a day, 8-6, breakfast, dinner and tea but no nappies or wipes included.

£39 per day here, in the North West

There are cheaper nurseries locally. But having withdrawn DD from a nursery due to being unhappy with standards, we are happy to swallow the rather expensive cost as we are much more confident in the care provided.

That's not to say that nurseries can't be cheap and wonderful - I'm sure loads are. Just none near me .

I'm in a large town near Edinburgh as well (wonders if it's the same one as Cinnamon?!) and I pay £40.80 per day for my 2 year old. No nappies, wipes or meals included - so £43 seems pretty good to me.

Check to see of your employer provides childcare vouchers - and if not, push for them.

I have just moved from Kent where I paid £28 per day (8-6) but had to provide nappies, wipes and tea (lunch provided); to Bath where it is £43 per day including nappies wipes and all meals.

Which bit of Kent?
