Mumsnetters save BBC Food for the nation!

Afternoon all - Happy New Year

A hot slice of what we hope is good news for you: the BBC has confirmed to us that its much-loved BBC Food site is going to remain in place, despite moves to close it some time ago - and has told us that the decision is 'because of your letter and your members'. (Read Justine's letter to James Purnell here.)

It seems the power of outraged/knackered/hungry parents has saved BBC Food's collection of recipes for a grateful nation.

And if that's not a reason to break the January diet and knock up an enormous lasagne, we don't know what is.

Cheers!
MNHQ xx

Great! I used the website multiple times over Christmas, always find it really handy.

Fantastic!
It's such a good resource, it would be tragic if it were lost. Thank you, MNHQ.

That’s brilliant! I use it several times a week and was wondering how long i’d got left.

This is great. There are so many sites with recipes but I always find the bbc reliable and often go straight to it for ideas.

That's fab news! Best recipe collection anywhere online imo.

Excellent. I use it a lot. Made a great turkey and ham pie from it over Christmas.

DH wants to know why I have such a cookery book addiction collection if I look up recipes online all the time though.

It is indeed very good news,

However I'm pretty sure the original announcement from the BBC was to motivate public support/outrage in the face of massive budget cuts rather than being a serious intention to actually close it.

Good Food, and associated magazines and links to its food programmes etc is a massive money spinner for the BBC and drives a lot of traffic to the the BBC, it wouldn't have made a huge amount of sense for them to mothball it.

I think the bbc good food, which was not under threat, is a much better website.

I must admit I got all agitated about it because I thought it was BBC good food which was under threat when in fact it wasn't....it was Bbc food. Very confusingly similar names! But hey ho....

I do wonder how many others thought the same...!

Oh I feel silly now. It was the bbc good food site I used. However, I just looked at bbc food and see a nice beef curry recipe I want to try!

Amazing!! I absolutely love BBC Good Food and always use it. It’s a damn sight more reliable and trustworthy than other recipe sites!

Report
chandlersfraud · 05/01/2018 14:56

@Christmastree43 see previous posts - this was not about BBC good food (as I and seemingly many others thought initially) but was about the BBC food site which is different and not as good! (In my opinion!)

I much prefer BBC food recipes for daily use and BBC Good Food (Magazine) recipes when I'm feeling frillier.

@chandlersfraud Oops Blush thought I had read the previous posts as well Grin

I thought that would have been quite the coup for MN to save Good Food

Yay! I love BBC Food (as well as bbc good food) - it's a great resource of receipts from bbc tv shows and includes the first "proper" dinner party recipe that I ever made (although I have got a print out about that)
