Miscarriage/pregnancy loss

5 miscarriages!

jadew0108x · 04/02/2019 23:32

Hi, so... I've now had 5 miscarriages...

And The hospital have advised me if all my blood tests come back fine then there's nothing else they can do for me.. which is very disappointing and upsetting.

Has anyone else been through this? I feel like it's going to keep on happening to me. Is there anything I can take to prevent this? (Other than folic acid and aspirin as advised by the recurrent miscarriage consultant).

Any advice is appreciated I feel like I'm at a dead end and ready to give up!

Clexane? Ask if you can have blood thinning injections. Vitamin D tablets also.

I had 3 but my blood showed clotting issues and doing those things got me to 26 weeks.

Thanks for your advice I'll look into those things. Are you still pregnant now?

I had 3 misscarriages. Then our dd. Then another misscarriage then second dd. With second dd I had struggled to conceive and was desperate not to lose another baby. So I sat pouring through text books in my desperation ( im a nurse) ( but also a geek). Anyway I discovered the best thing for me personally to try was half an aspirin. I didn’t even tell anyone. I was sick up to my back teeth of doctors not having any answers. Anyhow for whatever reason the pregnancy continued. I will never know if it was that but I suspect it helped as I felt the problem was due to clotting. All the best.

Meant to say half an aspirin a day

Ahh yes I was taking that with my last pregnancy:(. It's so frustrating and upsetting that medical professionals have no answers.

I'm the same, I literally sit and research on it 24/7. It's taking over my life, I can't seem to stop thinking about it. I can't sleep or anything, I'd not wish this on my worst enemy x

I’m so sorry for your losses OP. I’ve just had my 5th miscarriage too (2 weeks ago). Never gets any easier.

DH and I were both seen at the recurrent miscarriage clinic after the 3rd loss but nothing was found and was told it was just bad luck. I wasn’t given any advice at all on what to try next.

What folic acid dose did your doctor advise jadew0108x? That is something I would like to try.

I’m driving myself mad researching things. I’ve just started vitamin e as I’ve read that a thin uterine lining can result in miscarriages and vitamin e increases the blood flow to the uterus which thickens the lining. Since I’ve had surgery 4 times to remove pregnancies, I feel my womb may not be as good as it should be and needs help. It may not be the case, but I wanted to try something!

I’m also looking into vitamin b12 as it’s supposed to be beneficial in preparing your body for conception and help you carry to term.

This is definitely the worst period in my life. I can’t sleep. I cry a lot. I feel like I’m in a special club that I never wanted to join. Being a woman can be so hard!

I had 2 Dds and then 11 MCS and then my DS. No reason found. Many years later after becoming extremely ill, I found I have a B12 deficiency.

Oh my goodness I'm so sorry for your loss as well!

They didn't actually advise that I use a certain one, I use the pregnacare 400mg folic acid, and I was advised to only start and take my aspirin when I got a positive test (advised by recurrent miscarriage consultant), but then my doctor said I'm probably taking it too late after conception for it to work. So I'm totally in a whirlwind with all of this :/.

I'll read up on the vitamins thank you! It's like a nightmare that never ends, I wouldn't wish this on my worst enemy.

Hi... Am so sorry to hear this. I'm currently in recovery after a traumatic 2nd trimester loss where I seemed to have gone into early labour (awaiting test results so unsure of cause).

Have you considered getting referred to Tommy's miscarriage research centre? I'm contemplating volunteering for a trial due to the checks, advice and hopefully care that's given in the attempt to learn more about causes of miscarriage and prevention of avoidable ones.

Really sorry to hear of your losses. I had three very early MCs (at 4/5 weeks). Even though my progesterone levels were normal, my doctor said I could try progesterone supplements (200mg vaginally) as soon as I got my next BFP - I did so and am now 14 weeks with a very healthy pregnancy so far. No idea if the progesterone worked or just luck though...

I'm really sorry to hear you have been through this. We had six miscarriages and were advised that I take 150mg aspirin a day after my sixth one. I did and we had our daughter who is almost 7 so it's worth trying.

So sorry for your losses Flowers

I’ve been in the same boat, 5mcs, at varying stages, two of them mmc. I was very lucky with my RMC and my consultant in particular and despite all my many tests showing no issues at all I’ve been on various treatment plans and this time it’s working and I’m 35 weeks along with lucky number 6.

This time I was on steroids from bfp to 14 weeks and a massive dose of progesterone from bfp to 24 weeks and aspirin and 2 x fragmin/clexane injections from bfp and still on them now. I’ll never know which of them did the trick but this is the first time I’ve tried the steroids. If I ever get pregnant again (keen to get this one out safely first) I don’t know if we’ll do the full regime again or not.

I’ve spoken to so many women on here who have had multiple losses and when the tests are clear they’re left to just keep trying and it’s brutal. Your body and spirit take such a battering it’s unreal. Even with an amazing doctor it’s been epically shit tbh but having the support from someone who will throw everything at it in the hope something works has meant the world to me and I wish the NHS didn’t operate such a postcode lottery to treatment options. We’ve been lucky having everything on the NHS but our guy also works privately and there are several big centres treating recurrent miscarriage you could ask to be referred to. I wish you every lucky, it’s so hard Flowers

Thank you so much! And I'm so glad your baby is finally here... how exciting 😍🖤

It's casing so many arguments and stress, were very close to giving up. But if we do it's always going to be "next time could have been the time" 😫

Sorry for your losses it's very upsetting. I took high concentrations of folic acid, aspirin plus agnus castus whilst ttc, stopped agnus castus when pregnant and carried on with aspirin and folic acid

Have you had any genetic testing done to see if there’s any issue?

Report
jadew0108x · 11/02/2019 15:25

I've had bloods done (quite a few) which have come back normal, we have another appointment in April with the recurrent miscarriage consultant to have a set of bloods done for chromosome testing. They've never been able to test the miscarriage tissue as I've never been far enough along x

I had 5 MC in a row and now have a healthy 9 month old boy. Testing never found anything. Took aspirin for 2, went on to miscarry both and was advised not to take it again. I took extra folic acid and vitamin D when I was pregnant with my little boy, but tbh I don't think this really made the difference.

I know how hard it it being where you are, feeling like you can't go through it again but wondering if next time would be the time... It's such a personal decision. My heart goes out to you, wishing you all the luck in the world Flowers

Hi Saltk, did your 6th pregnancy just work, without you ever really knowing what was wrong or why it worked? I've had 4 miscarriages now and feeling rather depressed about it all. The tests I've had so far have come back clear.... x

Hi teamseashore, sorry for the slow response.

Yeah, I had tests, the only thing they ever found d was that I was low in vitamin D (like a lot of people). My consultant didn't think it really meant anything, but like I said, I took Vitamin D and extra folic acid as well. But really, I think it was just luck.

I'm so sorry you're going through this. I'll never forgot how it felt, it was the hardest thing I've ever been through, and it felt never ending. I never in a million years thought I'd be one of those people who would end up a "success" story, I was convinced it would never happen for me. But all the doctors kept telling me I was more likely to have a baby than not if I kept trying. While that hope is good, it's also hard when you don't know if you can keep going.

Take heart, nothing showing up on your tests is a good thing, even though I know sometimes it doesn't feel like it xxxx

Jade, recent science showed the cause is likely the fragmented dna in sperm. Ask ur dp to take vitamin D and also get him
Checked. Show the consultant the article it’s from
Imperial college.

Wish u the best !

The article is only for 2 months ago

Hey @jadew0108x I know this is an old post but did anything every work for you? Currently on my 4th chemical pregnancy as they call it. This time I was on aspirin and cyclogest pessaries but did not work. They sent the pregnancy tissue off to be tested for chromosome abnormalities but that takes 3 months and my specialist have put me on a research trial to test the natural killer cells I think it is. But just like you I'm fed up and no answers is a killer. Mentally and physically drained xx

Hi @charlotte0808 I just found out at my 8 week scan on Saturday I've had a missed miscarriage, this is my fifth. I was on the progesterone pessaries but my consultant at the RMC advised against aspirin as my clotting tests came back all clear. All the tests that the nhs did came back all clear but there is clearly something wrong. I've asked the GP for a referral to Dr Quenby's specialist clinic where I can hopefully get the NK cell testing. Can I ask how long it took for you to get your referral through? Did you go through your GP?

Hi @Amy00 so sorry for your losses 😞❤️ progesterone apparently delays an inevitable miscarriage I've read on here but didn't make no difference to me I've bled at 5 weeks to the day every time. My specialist just offered it to me and the Tommy's research trial not sure how long it takes I've got to ring her on Wednesday to have an update. Also they sent off the pregnancy tissue for chromosome abnormalities testing hopefully it's not that as I'm assuming that's dna linked so don't think that could be rectified. They check the inflammation of the womb of the Tommy's trial by taking a biopsy of it. If there is something wrong with the nk cells they prescribe prednisone don't they? Are you under a specialist? X
