I believe I am miscarrying, been bleeding for a day and it is heavier and I am passing clots now, how much pain can I expect?

I am 9+4 I haven't had any scans to see if it a MMC or I am going to pass a 9 week gestation baby.

I do have an appointment set up for Monday, to have blood tests and things.

It already feels like early labour pains in my back and hips.

I am not bleeding heavily yet so I guess the pain is going to get worse and I just don't know if I can face it.

I have never had MC before and really don't know what to expect :(

sorry to hear this purple

i have mc at 9wks 3 times and for me it really is not nice, very heavy bleeding and lots of pain. i don't want to scare you but i think it's better to be honest. but don't worry, many women will only experience a very heavy period and strong cramps until the sac is passed.

if you feel like you can't control the pain or if the bleeding seems excessive please go to the hospital.

hope it isn't too bad for you.

take care.

Thank you, I have taken some paracetamol, so I will wait for it kick in.
How long did it take for you pass the sack if you don't mind me asking?
I am bit worried as we don't have a car and the hospital is quite far away, but I gave birth with G&A so hoping I will cope ok :(

I kind of wish I wasn't having it naturally but I haven't been given a choice :(

MummyWilliams I did just check and I saw your second message, I am sorry at least there has been some growth, it has happened to you before though hasn't it? :(

Loopymumsy it is more periody now the paracetamol has started to work, I am very susceptible to it as I hardly ever take pills. I am at beginning of it all though so I will wait and see how bad it gets :(

Purplebuns I've never had a natural miscarriage persay, but did have a MMC at 15 weeks which was removed by an ERPC. Sadly the ERPC was incomplete and therefore I 'laboured' to get rid of what was left. I am going to be honest, the pain was very bad, I had G&A and morphine - it took about 6 hours for what was left to come away.

Then when I lost our son this year at 18 weeks I had a natural delivery (medically managed), the pain was bad, I did have alot of codeine, but it was nowhere near as bad as the first miscarraige and was over within 4 hours.

I will say this, that everybody is different, as is every pregnancy/miscarriage, some ladies have miscarriages and don't have alot of pain - that's what I mean.

I will keep checking on here to see how you are you are doing. I really do have everything crossed for you, I truly, truly do.

Best wishes to you.

Purplebuns - big hug for you.

I called an ambulance - don't feel guilty, I needed to as I was in so much pain, I couldn't sit down.

Is you partner with you?

I know its scary, but you will get through this. Be strong. Be strong. Be strong. Think of you little ones, anything that will take your mind off things.

if your feeling scared then get yourself to the hospital.

i went straight to the emergency gynae ward the first time. call the hospital and ask to be put straight through.

if not go to a&e. you don't have to go throught this alone.

Really sorry to hear this.

I've had two natural MCs, both at 7 weeks.

MC1: really violent pains, like awful period cramps, then big clots. Didn't look for sac. Lasted for the afternoon.

MC2: spotting all day, got worse and started pains, big clots then passed the sac that evening - I checked for it that time. It's no fun checking for it, but it's best so you know that everything's out. It does give you closure, but don't look too closely as it's just upsetting without being helpful.

With both I was fine the next day. You could ring NHS Direct - they've been great when I've called them.

Go see doc once it's over and keep an eye out for feeling ill esp fever in the few days in case something is left behind and infection sets in - hence good idea just to go to the doctor when you can and discuss it.

However, definitely agree you should go to hospital if the pain gets REALLY bad, bleeding gets really heavy etc, or if you just want reassurance - sometimes you need medication, scan etc (my friend needed that for her natural MC). And regardless, it's just miserable and distressing so go get help if you need it.

Hope you're ok. It's rubbish, there's no two ways about it, but you will feel better eventually.

Hi purple, glad to hear you're getting to a doctor. Don't be worried about this - they'll probably just give you pain relief (jab in the bum, in my case!), possibly put you on a drip if you need it and monitor you until you pass the sac, if you want them to.

In terms of pain, some women have more than others. It seems to run the full range from 'slightly worse than period' to 'as bad as labour' so there's nothing abnormal in anything in that range. I couldn't stand up, was kneeling and curling up in a ball and so called an ambulance as I couldn't make it out to the car (or rather DH did as I was just swearing in the background Blush ) so don't worry about calling an ambulance if you need to.

Hi purple. So sorry you are going through this :(

I have not a lot of experience other than I had an ERPC in June and they did not get everything and I was left to miscarry the rest. I did end up at a&e as it was ridiculously heavy, and they admitted me and did another ERPC. After it was all over they told me what I passed was 9 weeks (placenta) as baby had died between 5-6 weeks. It was a lot of blood and very very large clots.

Holding your hand and sending you lots of vibes.

purple so sorry... have come to this quite late, and sounds like you are getting medical assistance now, but in case useful for anyone else...

Have had 3 MMCs, ERPC for the first, and then MC nat awaiting MMC for the 2nd... I was 12 weeks, scan had shown baby died at 9... the natural MC was ok in my case; 5 hours of intense blood loss when I couldn't really leave the bathroom, rotating from loo, to bath, to shower. It was not exactly painful, more uncomfortable and very disconcerting as so much blood and clots fell away from me IYSWIM.

Pain was totally manageable. Then went on to bleed for about 10 days, mediumish period tailing off to spotting.

As someone has already said, experiences vary so much. Just wanted to post that a natural MC isn't necessarily horrid/painful.

Hope your recovery goes well and you are getting all the support you need.

Hi everyone,
It was okish in the end, I went to the doctors who sent me to hospital, as I started to lose a lot of blood and he was worried I might need a transfusion. etc (My description was that blood was bucketing out of me)

I passed loads clots and 'stuff' with early labour type contractions I coped with it ok, and didn't need any extra pain relief. I couldn't have anyway, as I didn't see a doc at the hospital for a long time.

When I finally saw her I had passed a large mass of 'product' and I knew it was all over.
It was weird I just suddenly stopped feeling pregnant and felt empty.
My body also felt peaceful, so I do feel with hindsight that there was something wrong as I didn't have such strong pregnancy symptoms, this time at all.

DH was with me most of the day yesterday and was a fantastic support, we even managed to laugh at a couple of moments, while it was happening in a macabre kind of way, we just needed to keep our spirits up.

The hospital was pretty good really although understaffed and the doctor in the end was lovely. You have to wonder about their job and what they see, must be hard, and very varied as the doctor was doing an EMCS and then had to come to me!

I do have to go and have scan on Monday to check that everything is passed and I think that will be hard, seeing an empty screen.

I feel tired and very sad today, and I am in the process of telling people about it, if I feel better before, I feel terrible after.

I did lose my baby and that is something we need to come to terms with and I am surprised at how sudden it was, from spotting to finish in 30 hours with no prior warning.

I am sad also that if I get pregnant again, I will not be able to relax at all, and I do feel that getting to nine weeks was quite far, I almost felt like I was reaching that 12 week finish line, just for it all to end.

Sorry for long post and TMI it does help though.

Thanks for all your support messages, you have all helped so much and I feel for all your lost little ones, it is so devastating.

I am very thankful for my DD and my DH and I know that I am very lucky in this respect. And I will try never to forget that.

Thanks again :)

So so sorry purple.

I can relate exactly to how you must be feeling, the same thing happened after my ERPC. When they scanned me I asked not to see and that did help a bit. The most upsetting thing was being sat in a waiting room full of pregnant women and then also being told there was a little bit more to come. That totally tipped me over the edge as I felt so traumatized by what had happened and the amount of blood loss :( Luckily I got an empathetic dr who agreed to do an ERPC so I wouldn't have to go through it AGAIN.

Sorry for the ramble. I hope you are feeling ok and that you will heal in the weeks to come. When you do try again come and join us on the pregnant after mc thread. And know that it was likely down to something being wrong and the chances of that happening again next time are slim.

Purplebuns so sorry to hear this. You must be devastated. The thing with miscarriage no matter what stage, it was a life, a life that you had dreams for. You have to grieve that loss, and it will take time. Don't be hard on yourself because you think you 'should be' coping etc. You will be ok one minute and not the next. And you are bound to be tired. This is all normal.

I am so glad to hear that you had the support of your DH yesterday.

I was also pleased to hear that your pain was manageable. You have done so well.

On Monday, they will ask you if you want to look at the screen anyway. There will be no need to look.

Very best wishes for the future Purplebuns.
