I read this! It is a channel 4 documentary on this Thursday at 9pm. Pics were from the show. I was in tears reading it while watching my 4yr old play beside me. The parents need some serious help. How can anyone put a 5yr old in a ring to fight? Made me feel sick. These people are no more than animals.

I'm going to avoid this. It's child abuse. Parents are encouraging their children to hurt others. It was in another newspaper today. They had a quote off one of the parents who said their child often cries before they fight. How wrong is this???

The pictures showed a little girl of 5 and she is sobbing and the Dad is saying come on princess and then when she doesn't stop he shouts at her to pack it in. She gets in the ring still sobbing all the time he is saying kick her princess. The mother is watching this happen. They are not fit to have children. Why aren't social services stepping in. THey are worse than animals.

wasnt there a news story quite recently where mums got taken to court for getting their kids to fight and filming it on their phones?
how is this any different?
i did see this in the paper yesterday and actually asked my dp if he thought it was a wind up, i cant believe parents can be so shit to their kids and be proud of it.

Aren't these children covered by the same minimum age rules governing stage performers?

Report

Have I got this right then? WE'RE not allowed to smack our own children but it's OK to put them in a Boxing Ring for other children to beat the shit out of them?

The law is an ass.

"Mark said: "Our dream is for him to win a stadium title. I don't know what HIS dream is?probably to play with his soldiers."

and "Mum Maxine was a once successful fighter herself and giggled: "I like bashing people's faces up first. There was a girl once and I actually enjoyed splattering her nose all over.""

the parents don't deserve their children. do they have any idea what damage they're doing to their children's heads body's self esteem the list goes on.

surely this is child abuse and must be regulated at the very least - if it's not and it's banned and outlawed, then it may go to ground so to speak where the children can't be protected?? either way it's sickening and I honestly can't understand why any parent would want to subject their child to this.

I couldnt quite make out where these clubs were in the UK. Or are they NOT in the UK, anyone know where they are.

It's a very raw primative community they live in, and thank the good Lord above, it is a minority. But even just one child, should not be subjected to such horrors. These people truly need these kids taken off them. Seriously IMO

A friend of ours is a professional boxer, 20 years ago he used to train with the police boys. We went to watch him and there were all age ranges staring from about 6/7. I was really shocked & was sickened. Not just for the little boys but the viciousness of the parents shouting around the ring....

Surely it should be illegal

I have never ever enjoyed or liked boxing. I swear I don't see the what is so entertaining about two men (children in this case) knocking each other senseless.

Its just violence to me. Same with wrestling. Total violence.

Because this is Thai boxing there are no legal age limits and neither do they have to wear protective head gear. It is a completely unregulated "sport" In normal boxing they cannot fight before the age of 11 and it is obviously regulated. It is sickening to think people actually pay money to watch this. How a father can justify watching his child do this so she won't end up a rape victim is disgusting. So he feels it is ok for her to be beaten up now at 5yrs old as it will stop rape later?????? Why can this not be stopped?

I'll be interested to see the documentery. My dd started coming kick boxing with me when she was 5 and really enjoyed it. Infact I've stopped going as I broke my foot and she often asks if she can start again.

She used to spar with other kids in training, but never had a proper fight. However there were certainly other young kids in the club who used to fight in the tornaments and I can't see a problem with it. Maybe its different to the sort of fights that this programme is going on about though The fights I saw for kids were all "point fights" - so its contact, but only contact to make a touch (a punch or kick), not a case of trying to knock crap out of each other. Plus they had to wear full protective gear. Some of the kids in the club were really good and made the junior British team. They loved it, never saw a kid crying.

Oh and the photo on that link of the young blonde girl looking close to tears - I really doubt she's in any sort of fight when that photo was taken. She hasn't got gloves on! She looks like she's practising blocks though I admit she looks miserable.

Its illegal to bare knuckle fight in this country for adults/kids/thai boxing/any boxing.

Sorry stripeyknickers, I dont agree. Im glad your little one enjoys kick boxing though, not something Id introduce my LO's too, but horses for courses an all!

Are you saying this is sensationalist reporting? media at its best? well they sure had me fooled, if that is the case.

It's a link to the NOTW fgs - a 'newspaper' incapable of anything other than sensationalist reporting.

Standard kick boxing classes at council sport centres and so forth are nothing at all like this seems to be. It can be just as constructive and unobjectionable as, say, judo.
