No water supply in Cheltenham for another 2 weeks???

kittylouise · 24/07/2007 12:04

Like a lot of Cheltenham and Gloucester, I have had no mains water since Sunday. I am at work at the moment and have heard that it will not be reconnected for possibly another 2 weeks. Has anyone else heard this - please someone say it's not true!!! Plus, also can someone tell me where the water bowsers are, because there are none near me (Bishop's Cleeve) as far as I know.

I would imagine your local water authority will be informing people where they can get water in due course. Or try your local radio station for info.

sympathies to you, this is a horrible situation.

It's really shite isn't it? I don;t live in Cheltenham, but I have a fiend who works there who told me that it was awful yesterday. (not least because he had a hangover!)

There's this if it's any use

Hope they get it back on soon

It's horrible! There is also such a lack of information around, a lot of it is gossip and heresay. Am at work at the mo and the supply has stopped here as well - so we are allocated 1 bottle of water each and have to flush the loos with buckets of water!

Oh god I just want to have a bath!

YEs i Have heard it will be a minimum of 7 days but up to 14... there's a bowser very close to me but it ran out last night

Thanks for that, Walrus, that's a great help. At least I don't have to brave Tesco (and the fights over bottled water - am not joking!!)

How shitty for you

It's ironic with the amount of rain we've had really isn't it?

oops and yes they do say 7-10 days. probably a good idea to go on holiday??

I am in a village north of you and there are 4 bowsers in our village. Have just rang up Chipping Campden swimming pool and they are OPEN and the roads are accessable - even though it's 18 miles away I'm going to go with ds every other day. So thats our baths sorted out! (have promised those concerned that I will shower BEFORE entering th pool Dh works up near kidderminster and has faciities to shower there. I am just concerned with things like cleaning dishes/house/cooking/never mind clothes - I am in the process of tracking down a laundrette that is useable.

Just been talking to colleagues about bowsers in Bishop's Cleeve, and apparently they are all empty already. Groovy. And Tesco have been distributing free water all morning, but I expect that will be gone by 6 when I finish work.

Is chaos - loads of colleagues have had to go home because nurseries/childminders have had to close.

I agree - is probably the besy time to go on holiday. However, have to stay here really to sort out all insurance stuff.

Must say have had better summers!!

Nearest launderette is probably Bristol!

Just doing dishes, flushing loos, washing hair will be such a mammoth task.

Have loads of clothing that got soaked at the weekend which I can't wash, and is starting to smell like damp sheep. So will probably join you in the search for the nearest launderette. Or go to my mum's at the weekend (but think that Devon is a bit far to go!)

No, I was a bit of a drip and only filled up 2 saucepans and a blender with water. Didn't even fill up the sinks and bath. Honestly, what a prat!

I went to Devon yesterday (my dd is spending a couple of weeks at my mum's and I was dropping her off) and brought back about 50 bottles of water. So we're OK for now.

Are there any water bowsers near you sweeties?

(by the way have never heard the word bowsers before this mullarkey!!)

Kittylouise - buy paper plates and cups!

Report
kittylouise · 24/07/2007 13:14

even better, just eat takeaways out of the wrapping - no dishes then. So no cooking - bonus!

Am still going to be smelly with dirty clothes, though...

Don't know how a takeaway can open though with not alot of water - same goes for bars and pubs, shops, blah blah blah. It really is a disaster

Furball, why don't you drop off laundry with me on way to Chipping Camden, then pick it up on way back? Roads from Evesham to us are open at the moment, and we have flushing loos (3)

Itsthawooluff · 24/07/2007 14:02

Also, Evesham Leisure centre is open with swimming pool, so perhaps not so far to go?

Report
Furball · 24/07/2007 14:25

wasn't sure about evesham. I thought they also had problems?

That is our local pool

The army were in Cleeve earlier today giving out water at Tesco.

Kitty I'd go to Devon if you can get time off work. Stay away from the area. Bottled water is never going to be enough to wash clothes and flush toilets. Do you realise how much water it takes to flush a toilet??

For what it's worth you did the right thing not filling loads of baths and things. I didn't either. Most of the people I know acted responsibly and saved some for essentials.

It's the dick heads that were really selfish that made it run out so quickly. Also the same with the bowsers. people filling huge vessels and saying bollocks to the rest of us

sorry for swearing but am a bit hacked off
