Just wanted to highlight and acknowledge her incredible bravery and selflessness on behalf of rape victims. She accomplished so much.

I remember this case so well. This is awfully sad, she was so young.

I'm sorry to hear that - I remember that case very well and I am a similar age to Jill. She was very brave to step forward and speak out, I do think the case was very badly handled by the judge at the time.

How sad. What a truly remarkable lady.
The only time I ever saw my DF cry was watching the news was when the Ealing case was being reported .
R.I.P you changed our world Jill.

Will never forget this case, the burgler got a higher sentence than the two who had raped Jill.
I was outraged at the time and although I know the judge acknowledged his mistakes later in life it still upsets me that her trauma never got higher priority.

She's worked so hard for others since that time, thank you Jill and may you rest peacefully. Thinking of your family.

For those too young to remember this became known as 'The Ealing Vicarage (Rape) Case'.
Jill Saward was raped by 2 assailants whilst her father and boyfriend were tied up.
The attack received widespread attention not just for its brutality, but also due to a comment in the subsequent trial when judge Mr Justice Leonard said the trauma suffered by her “had not been so great”.
She waived her anonymity and was treated badly by the justice system throughout.
She then spent 30 years campaigning to highlight the extent of rape and domestic violence in this country and the inadequacies of the 'system'.

My feeling is that, whether you have ever been a victim or not, her actions have helped all women in this country.

RIP, Jill. Thanks

I remember the case very clearly. She was treated so shabbily by the system, but went on to become a courageous and indefatigable campaigner.

Didn't her father publicly announce very soon after that he had forgiven them.

RIP Jill
