Help cleaning washing machine rubber seal after using fabric dye

I used a pack of navy machine wash dye recently and it seems to have dyed the grey rubber seal too.

I've done a hot machine clean and scrubbed at it with a baby wipe which has helped a bit but I also don't want to damage the rubber.

Fascinating pic attached!

Is the dye residue leaving marks on subsequent washing, or is it the seal that's just changed colour?

If it's the former, suggest Dylan Washing Machine Dye. It worked for me, as I had real problems after re-dying my navy jeans.

If it's the latter, I think you may have to suck it up. Don't used bleach as it'll start to disintegrate the rubber -( I think!)

It's just the seal - clothes are coming out fine. It's just annoying me cos it doesn't look clean.

use pure bleach ( I use domestics ) on kitchen roll to wipe the seal several times until you don't see any colour then put a cup of bleach in the drum and run the machine on a short hot cycle to get rid of any residue dye.

As long as you don't use machine dye regularly (I dye clothing/ linen once or twice a year) then bleach is fine and my machine is 10 years old. You can also use kitchen roll and water to wipe off any excess bleach once you're finished

That's good to know.... I've always been a bit wary of bleach + rubber combo.

Okay so 1 for bleach may disintegrate the rubber, 1 for a cup of bleach in the machine!

Any more takers?

When the washing machine man came round I asked him about the bleach he said the occasional bleach treatment as in once or twice a year was fine. He also said in his experience hairdressers regularly have to replace the rubber seals on their washing machines because they were washing towels daily which contain bleach
