Autumnal Scents

Inspired by IamChipmunk's lovely Christmas smells thread over in Christmas.

I am a hardcore seasonal scenter and love my home fragrance to reflect the season e.g. Handwashes, candles, beauty products, cleaning products, Zoflora obviously Grin

Now summer is drawing to a close I'm on the lookout for lovely Autumnal scented things. I've got my trusty Vanilla Chai YankeeCandle waiting to be lit on 1st September and Twilight Garden Zoflora (a real end of summer one for me). I'm always on the look out for new things though.

Does anyone have any suggestions of nice handwashes, candles etc to make us all feel cosy before we crack out the Christmas products?

Oh I'm so glad you started this thread. I was hoping to find some suggestions!

Grin Me too!

I can start it off slightly with a £££ one. I have a Blackberry & Bay Jo Malone candle that only gets lit during Autumn. It's an unusual scent but definitely Autumnal and warming.

If you like vanilla scents the Soaper Dooper vanilla shea butter handwash is lovely. (Tesco stock them). The bottle isn't very nice looking but it lasts ages and isn't drying. Nice soft vanilla smell.

Wondering what The White Company Autumn scent is like. Their candles are good.

Oh and I have a small candle that is Rhubarb and Ginger scented. Have it in the kitchen. I think gingery and fruit scents are good for Autumn.

Rhubarb and ginger sounds lovely

St Evel candle do 'leaf' Which is my autumn scent of choice.
Yes, I want to smell TWC Autumn candle

I have the TWC Autumn one as it was in a set of "four seasons" I got at Christmas. I like it because I love appley scents, but it does have a bit of musk in. I prefer the Diptyque Quince one which is really gorgeous (but more ££)

I'm not using either of them yet et anyway because I'm on Diptyque Baies which is lovely and berry-ish, and Jo Malone Green Tomatoes which makes me want to live in a greenhouse. It's still summer for a while in my house!

M&S do a lovely Rubarb Flower candle.

I also found a lovely Vineyard & Hill candle, scented with Whiskey and Oak in a Boots. May be a tad more winter but I loved it. Ditto the Woodwick Fireside candle.

But my ultimate is the Fois De Bois candle by Diptique.

Some great suggestions here!

Enid Rhubarb and ginger sounds like the perfect scent for late summer/early autumn!

Alice I LOVE Diptyque Baies and think it would be a great autumn scent but sadly the budget won't allow for it at the minute Sad

I had a little look in Boots yesterday and noticed they had a Baylis and Harding handwash called Midnight Fig and Pomegranate (I think!) which would be perfect and smelled great but it had xmassy packaging which put me off (don't get me started on their 'Xmas' scent Eton Mess compete with festive packaging. Wrong, just so wrong Envy)

Also not expensive or exciting but using an Imperial Leather shower gel called Funfair Nostalgia and I think that is really autumnal!

Ooh Sonnet those St Eval candles look lovely, very reasonably priced too. Do they give out a lot of scent? Can you buy them in the high street?

Fab thread. I am a seasonal scenter too Grin I currently have yankees tobacco flowers burning, it's filling the house with the scent of pipe smoke, not everyone's cup of tea but very nostalgic for me.
I discovered swan creek drizzle melts last year, might have been on here. They are difficult to get hold of but worth it. They do a lovely range of autumnal fragrances. Does anyone have an electric oil diffuser? I'm thinking of exploring oils as I haven't done so in years.

I sniffed all of those last week Paradise Grin We must gravitate to Autumn/Winter looking things.

I've never had a diptyque candle. Gone off Jo Malone as they don't burn down straight. Maybe Diptyque should be this year's frivolous luxury candle buy. Need to have a sniff.

Ooh, yes the White Company smelled DELICIOUS yesterday and I must get my mitts on their Autumn candles and a diffuser. So much more edible than their musky coconutty Mustique that always seems to pong out the place a bit.

Great thread!

I love the sound of many of these scents. Yum!
Question...what do you do with Zoflora? I bought some once, but wasn't sure how to use it apart from on a cloth to clean. And Is it safe to clean floors with if you have pets? Can you just leave a bit out to evaporate and smell nice?

ParadiseLaundry · 23/08/2017 08:03

Linspins zoflora is safe for pets as long as it's diluted and dried. I use it along with Stardrops to clean the litter trays.

You can use it neat in bins to get rid of that ingrained whiff.

You can dilute one cap in 400mls of water in a spray bottle and it's great for cleaning windows with a microfibre cloth (it contains oil which helps lift the dirt and alcohol which makes it shine).

Or you can add a bit of Stardrops or washing up liquid to the bottle and make a surface spray for kitchen work tops.

If you just want the smell in the house you can dilute it in warm water in the kitchen, wise that for cleaning and leave the water standing and the smell will linger Smile

Thank you ParadiseLaundry!
We just got two kittens yesterday, and our house is suddenly full of...unusual smells! They aren't allowed out yet so it's doors and windows shut, which doesn't help with letting fresh air in. I'm going to leave a few windows locked open a little, to let a tiny bit of air through, but an extra scent might be nice.

If you like fig, @ParadiseLaundry, Shearer's candles (which I love!) have an oriental fig candle, which sounds very autumnal.

They also have a new Highland Range, The Gathering sounds distinctly autumnal too. How much money is reasonable to spend on scented candles in one go....

Sorry, I've just noticed your comment! Just had a look at those drizzle melts, they look amazing. I only have a candle oil diffuser, I'm interested in yearling what electric ones are like too.

I love Fig @Flashinthepan, it's perfect for autumn!

This also reminded me that a good few years ago I got a shower gel from The Body Shop called Spiced Pumpkin and it was absolutely amazing. I put a pump on it and used it as a handwash and spun it out over a few years. Discontinued now of course. Given the popularity of Starbucks Pumpkin Spice Lattes you would think there would be more pumpkin scented products available. Does anyone know of any that I may have missed?

Hi Paradise, that brand swan creek has pumkin and caramel melts they are omg!!!!! I went a bit mad on ebay last night and bought some the delivery was free, so although pricey for a melt worth it.
I picked up some candles in sainsbury this am, medium sized attractive jars, fig leaf and elderberry and a peony one, sadly not much of a throw.
I'm definitely going to investigate the electric diffusers, saw some on amazon and they change colours so I thought they would be nice for a bedroom. My friend bought me a new Yankee last week it's called warm cashmere and again it's beautiful, similar to wam wool by woodwick which is one of my favourites.

The best pumpkin scented candle I bought was from a shop in New York. I wish I'd bought more as never been able to find it again. Also had a vanilla spice one that was the perfect balance of warm spices and soft foody vanilla.

No use to anyone but it's one of those things that niggle whenever I remember.

Never smelt the Swan Creek candles but the names of them sound amazing. I love gourmand type scents and they all sound edible. Gingerbread!

A local business makes a Nag Champa candle that is absolutely gorgeous and perfect for Autumn.

Has anyone found anything nice recently seeing as it is now September? I noticed in another thread someone said that had already seen Christmas Zoflora in the shops.

I was sorting out my candle drawer and found some Yankee votives I got in the sale in the spring and totally forgot about (isn't it great when that happens Grin) there was Tarte Tatin and Gingerbread Maple and they are absolutely perfect! That lovely warm spicy smell without being too wintery.

It's been very autumnal today and the X Factor has started so I'm really in the zone Smile🍁

@ParadiseLaundry I love tarte tatin, our local Yankee candle store had the large jars for £10 each a few weeks ago so I stocked up. Look out for pain au raisin too, if you haven't sniffed it already, I'm sure you will love it. I bought an electric diffuser for upstairs, have to say I'm impressed.
I just cleared out the wardrobes and drawers and bought little scent sachets from home bargains, it's so nice feeling organised Grin

Ooh, I'll have to seek out Pain Au Raisin! Ooh, might have to invest in an electric diffuser then! What are the the little scent sachets? I love stuff like that! I read a tip on hear about pouring Zoflora on a sanitary towel and it will give off scent. I put one in DH's shoe cupboard Grin

I was just walking back from the park with DS and someone was burning wood and it smelled amazing! Sort of chocolatey, like a sauna. I thought that would make a great autumn candle scent!
