Blocked toilet help?

positively9something · 06/03/2014 23:15

My toilet is blocked! I have put caustic soda down it first time left it for around 20mins next time I left it for 2 hours and it still hadn't cleared Confused

Any idea what I can do?

Online I read about using salt or liquid soap any idea if these things will work? Or will they make it more blocked?

Get a wire coat hanger and try and see if you can poke it down the bend, that may work

Forgot to say to untwist hanger so it's long

do you think it might be a toy? or kitchen roll? or huge amount of bogroll? or a vast poo? Have you tried hooking it out with a straightened wire coathanger? (you will need eye protection as well as rubber gloves if you have used caustic soda, as it will burn holes in you)

do all other drains, sinks and gullies drain correctly?

Have you got a "manhole cover" nearby, and a spade?

p.s.

better to hook it out than to push it down

Get a huge bucket of water and pour it in really fast into the toilet from waist height, if this doesn't work it is most likely a actual blockage which will require rubber gloves and/or a long bendy object!

^^using eye protection too with the caustic soda!

I don't like the metal coat hangers so I don't have any Hmm

I have tried poking at it with the toilet brush and a pole off the mop! No luck

And I have just read caustic soda can actually harden and block the pipe even more

Do you have any wire at all ? Would have to be bendable .only other thing I can suggest is to put on gloves , cover you arms as high as you can with black sacks and try and unblock it manually. I know it sounds gross but it may work and solve the problem

have you tried plunging with a mop

Plunging with a mop. I searched on here for a solution when ours got blocked (bloody kids not flushing) and eventually decided to give the mop suggestion a go. It worked a treat.

Call a plumber.
I usually have to in the end.

O god this happened to us. As dh was the erm, source of the problem, he was sent in with rubber gloves. I am told that he used the toilet brush as a plunger with great smelly success Envy

I've always just stuck my hand and most of my arm down the bend as far as it would go and pushed whatever was blocking it through. Guess you might need gloves although I've never bothered.

Long bendy piece of hose is good. Try pushing that round the bendy and pulling it back and forth. It just a matter of getting it going.

If you have a hedge/bush, cut a long springy twig and push into the bend. Be on standby with a plastic bag to put twig into and then bin. Usually works for us....

I had to do 2 toilets a couple of weeks ago, didn't have any wire hangers (normally use them) so used a normal hanger, took a few goes but worked a treat.

Have you got a mop? One of those vileda things will do the trick .Stick it down the bottom of the pan & plunge. Flush the toilet if water is going down & keep plungeing. Hopefully this will release the blockage.
