What the hell do I do with this window?

I need some kind of (reasonably) blackout window dressing for this window. There are two of them on either side of the alcove.
There doesn't seem to be enough depth in the wood surround to mount a recess blind and there isn't enough height above the window for a curtain pole.
I'm thinking my only option might be Roman blinds attached to the outside top frame but they would then cover the whole frame when down.
Would this look pants and does anyone have any other bright ideas...?

What the hell do I do with this window?

What a pretty window and view. I’d be tempted to put up a very thin rail the width of the windowsill and have a lined curtain permanently hanging all the way across but pulled to one side each morning and held back with a metal hold-back hook. If that makes sense?

Have you considered internal shuttering?

Thanks! It's a lovely view and has all just been decorated but both windows are quite small and the curtains that were there previously blocked out lots of light even when open.... it's just a really awkward shape and design made worse by DD (whose room this is) asking for blackout!

We've got shutters elsewhere and find they do block out lots of light unless opened and fully pulled back each day. Also DD is really heavy handed so would definitely break them. There's also nowhere to fix them I think...?

How about shutters ? We have them in our bedroom and they are great , keeping it very dark. They also look neat and tidy the whole time and can be tilted to let the light through.

It looks like you could have Roman Blinds in recess looking at that pic.

Look at bloc blinds.... total blackout and mounted on existing frame. DS has a similar window and it works a treat

I've got these on a window where we couldn't work out what to do.

They're really easy to fit, assuming you've measured well to start with, I think you can pay extra if you're worried about your measurements though. I love them.

FIXixmygarden. I like the look of perfect fit BUT it looks like they're just for UPVC windows. Seems to be no way to attach to wood?
