Best newborn high chair

DH can't get over the price of the Tripp trapp, can anyone recommend a decent highchair which is suitable from birth. Thanks.

I'm not sure any are suitable from birth!

But we have the Baby Dan version of the Tripp Trapp and it's great. DD is 2.5 and still uses it daily.

Why do you need a high chair from birth? Ikea antilop is good for when they are able to sit.

I got the chicco polly magic off ebay for dd2. It is v ugly but suitable for newborn, v comfy and has a toy bar. Came in really handy when we were having a meal at the table with dd1 but wanted dd2 nearby and away from the dog.

Btw, wouldn't use it once weaning as way too many crevices. We have the Hauck Tripp Trapp copy which is great. Dd1, nearly 4' is still using it.

The chicco one is like a high up bouncy chair so handy if you have a dog or want to start to include the baby in mealtimes.

OP A newborn doesn't have the muscle strength to hold their own head let alone sit in a chair. You don't need a highchair till they can sit - 6 months plus. A bouncy chair is very useful but buy cheap and cheerful so if it gets nuked with baby poo you don't break your heart.

When they're old enough then yes the Ikea antilop is very cheap and very good.

We had the Tripp Trapp with newborn add-on. It is eyewateringly expensive but it is worth it. I asked on here somewhere for advice on alternatives and got a lot of "you won't need a high hair from birth" and "you'll have to get used to eating one handed on the sofa" but really that isn't necessarily true. DS (now 10 months) has always joined us at the table in his Tripp Trapp (first in the newborn chair and then the baby set) and I can count on one hand the number of times I've had to hold him instead (due to teething or illness), it is really great.

It is shockingly expensive but you can get good deals on eBay if you keep looking...

I used one from birth as I have a spinal condition so bending to the floor just wasn't do-able

Unfortunately it was 12 years ago so probably won't get the same chair which was chicco brand, huge great thing that reclined

Your baby won't be able to use a high chair until they can sit, about six months.

northernlurker the Tripp Trapp Newborn Set is designed for use from birth. It's a reclined carseat-esq chair that clips to the normal Tripp Trapp highchair.

She's miserable in her bouncy chair on the floor and I can't find a bouncy chair with any height. Next best thing I can find is the newborn set for the Tripp trapp so she can be a bit higher.

Are you sure she'll be happy in a chair at height? Lots of babies hate bouncy chairs, but a high chair normally isn't what they are trying to ask for

Chickenfactory, there are quite a few alternatives, aside from the Chicco one I have mentioned, think Hauck do one, and a couple of other brands.
To those people telling OP she is doing the wrong thing, the highchairs suitable from newborn have settings that are padded, have support and are not designed for weaning. You can then remove that stuff when the baby can sit up and when you want to start weaning them. They are like a high up bouncy chair, which when you think about it, is quite nice for the baby rather than being on the floor all the time. Mine loved her cheapo ebay chair and then we migrated to the Antilop when she started weaning. Total cost around £30.

We have the tripp trapp chairs. They didnt do the baby bit when mine were little but i would say the chairs themselves are worth the money as they are fully adjustable. My kids are 13, 11, 8, 5 and 2 and all use tripp trapp chairs. They are very comfy i often sit on them as well.

So put the baby in her car seat (or bouncy chair but harness better in car seat) on the table. As long as you are there and don't leave her unattended it's perfectly safe. You do not need a highchair for a new born and the newborn set is a perfect example of baby equipment evolving to suit a parent's desire to spend money on a gadget rather than a product which meets an otherwise unsatisfied need.,
