Dentists.. advice please. re dd's 2nd teeth.

Just noticed that one of dd's 2nd teeth is coming through .. but BEHIND the first set, ie the tooth hasn't come out yet..Iyswim.

Is this going to cause big problems?

Please don't tell me it will have to be extracted.

dd is 6.

this happened to me as achild and i did have to have then extracted, but what usually happens is that the baby tooth will eventually fall out but your dd may need a fixed brace at some stage as i did.

My ds has had this happen too. he hasn't had anything extracted yet and the milk tooth came out in time, but I do know that both he and his brother are probably going to need orthodentic (or howver you spell it) treatment later on.

one of ds1's is coming through in front of a baby tooth. It is wobbly and I am hoping it will fall out as any sort of dental work on him with require a GA and I think a brace would be out of the question. Agh,

SC 13 weeks! Did it escape your notice, or did you keep it quiet because of what has happened in the past, or am I just slow to hear news?

sorry, unicorn, haven't answered you....

DS2's adult front teeth came in very higgledy-piggledy, with the second incisors behind the front ones and the canines high up above the others. He is 12 now and has already had some orthodontic treatment including baby-tooth extractions and rearrangement and arch-stretching and whatnot - all liveable-with though.

He has also had some adult pre-molars removed to make space, and currently has elastic bands connecting his snaggle-tooth canines to his molars, to pull the canines down a bit.

Orthodontics are a bit of a nuisance but worth it if needed. (All of mine have needed treatment but have ended up with reasonably nice straight teeth!)

unicorn-none of my baby teeth fell out, so they were very out of alignment, however after 18 months of wearing a fixed brace and another year of a retainer, it was worth it as i ended up with lovely straight teeth, ds 1 has the same prob abd now is waiting for referal to orthodontist.

Hi unicorn. I wouldn't worry too much. My oldest dd has braces due to having had 'double' teeth. She had 2 removed. but not until she was 11, just before her braces were fitted. dd2 is to have braces also and is very excited as they are so fashionable!

eek.. I hope she will be ok... a dental trip next week I think.

So if they advise extracting baby teeth, shall I seek further opinion?

It doesn't sound as tho it's essential.... but how on earth do you cope with 2 sets of teeth??

I suppose they just go about looking like sharks for a little while lol! My sis is a dental nurse. I'll ask her in the morning what she thinks.

oh god all this talk of braces is worrying me. There is no way ds1 can have a brace, no way, and one of his teeth is coming through in front of a baby one. Shall I wobble it when he's asleep?

How old is she, unicorn? Getting second teeth before baby teeth have fallen out isn't uncommon - once her baby teeth fall out the second teeth should move forward into theirplace. Don't panic!

oh god ds1's teeth being all over the place are my big fear. (not worried about ds2 and ds3 - they can be fixed).

Not that there is anything to worry about!!

Jimjams, if you can wobble the tooth atall I would say it is coming out of its own accord anyway.

oh thank god. Honestly no-one has even seen inside ds1's mouth for 4 years. Any dental work = GA and obviously there's no way he could have a brace. I'll go and have a wobble in a minute (god knows what happened to the first 3 he lost- never found them he must have swallowed them).

Lol at 'go and have a wobble'!!! My dd3 swallowed her first two baby teeth, much to her intense disappointment. She managed to NOT swallow the third, ran off to wash it under the tap and washed it down the sinkhole!!
