jess has a few spots on her neck/shoulder.... not sure if this is the start of chicken pox or if its possibly just heat?!

Um, well that is how CP starts. But so do lots of other rashy things. If they keep coming, and start blistering, then it is probably CP. It is everywhere at the mo

keep getting fluids into her more than anything. Give HV a ring or Doc if she does get dehydrated.Bless.

Oh dear, have you all been feeling ill then?
How old is Jess? Is she old enough to be offered water in a beaker as well as her usual drinks? I would say a dry nappy for four or so hours in this heat was not a worry in an older baby who is otherwise well...but needed watching just in case

she's 11 months.

i was a bit ill last night - heat and pg dont mix!

I had dd in temperatures of over 100 on the wards in August 2003, I really feel for anyone pregnant at the mo.
Hope you are soon feeling better.
If it is CP, at eleven months I would try and persuade the GP that a teeny dose of Piriton Syrup (not technically suitable for 1 year and under) could be tried. And ask the pharmacist if they have Calamine and Zinc Oxide cream rather than the lotion, which stayed on dd for about 2 secs.
A teaspoon of bicarb of soda in Jess's bathwater might also help the itching.
Can you tell we have just been there, done the scabs?

Are there any pre-spot warning signs? There is chicken pox going around at ds's nursery and he is really off colour at the moment, but that could just be due to heat or teething. He's not off his food at all, so possibly a good sign.

Sometimes they are cranky the day before (ds was) sometimes the first you know about it is the spots (dd). It seemingly varies from child to child.
HappyMumof2, chickenpox is not that "rashlike" - in my experience, the first day or so you get few and far between pink spots with no head on them as yet on the upper trunk, then they rapidly appear closer together and blister. The spots are about a mm across, raised slightly, and do basically look like zits with no head to them at first. HTH

My stepdaughter had it when she was 6 and she became very quiet and withdrawn for a few days before the spots arrived, but I suppose the the symptoms could be very different for an older child

Generally CP spots are obvious right from the start - they come up in blisters very quickly and dotted around the place randomly. If it looks like a rash still then unlikely to be CP just heat
