I had a really horrid sore throat and temp about 2 weeks ago, lasted about 4 days.

Last week ds1 started with a v bad cough, kept him awake all night with temp for two nights. His temp went away, but then he was sick - just once - on Friday.

Bit better over the weekend, but then was sick in the middle of the night, again just once. He looks knackered this morning. Not surprising as I have now had awful cough for 2 days, temp yesterday (now gone thank gawd) and his little bro is hot and coughing too. And getting 4 molars in at once, which doesn;t help - he has been literally clinging to my boobs all night!

I can't figure out what the sickness has to do with it, he isn't hungry, doesn't feel sicky - it just comes out of the blue.

Anyone else? He wants to go back to school today but not really a chance - hope he might be well before Friday...

DD1 started about a month ago, just being sick, lasted 3/4 days

DD2 started couple of days later being sick, lasted couple of days, then got a cold, then had a very chesty cough which has lasted about 2 weeks, now is ok but getting stomach cramps occasionally.

DH got a sickness bug and just started being randomly sick for a couple of days, for about a week or so after he kept feeling a little sick with sore stomach.

Last week I got sickness bug which made me very lethargic (slept for 36 hrs), since then getting very bad stomach cramps which come and go but not being sick.

Oh gosh three weeks?

he has missed 2 days of school so far.
I don't think I can take it if we are all ill for that long.

My DH and DS4 have coughed every thirty seconds all night. DS hasn't eaten for nearly 2 days because he is frightened of being sick. Dont know what this bug is but it is causing havoc in our house.

Oh he gets better, then we send him to pre-school, 2 days later he again has "the bug".

I have a feeling I am sending him back too quickly in order to get to work, not this week though. I will take the days off if necessary.

Fala maybe he is just getting reinfected? I don;t know how it works.

Pinkfrogs - that's how I feel - everything is chaos!

am just battening down hatches and watching dvds tbh.

Are oui doing the ibrufen every 5 hours and calpol every 4 or something..... i am doing something like this.

A GREAT tip for night-time.

Soak a towel and cover it in oilbus oil/karvol and place over radiator. Fabtastic idea of mine, I must say. [proud]

weLL had this cold thing mid november.. it still hasn't gone away!!.. I am now thinking that I may have struggled have struggled through flu with just 2 days in bed!.

I still feel like I have been hit by a bus and could just sleep for a week!

crazyloon1 · 15/12/2008 08:10

Thats a good tip fala

I am taking ibuprofen and paracet. and ds2 is having calpol in syringe a few times a day

but ds1 won't touch the stuff. He prefers to get delirious. Thankfully he is over temp stage now...I think...

Oh that is crap for you

We only started at half term and he has had 2 days off already, this makes 5 so far inc today. I am hoping he will get enough sleep tonight to be fit tomorrow - he is really missing his friends.

On a good note he has now had a sandwich and some squash. Let's hope that stays down! I am scared of sicky bugs. Not so scared of coughs.

Yes we have this virus! Both DDs had chesty cough and cold then on Saturday night DD2 vomited just once and had a temperature all night. She slept for three hours yesterday and is still exhausted today. DD1 is the same, sick yesterday, temperature all night (I alternated calpol and nurofen) and is now very peaky. Is it the winter vomiting thing?

crazyloon1 · 15/12/2008 10:42

I don't know if it is the WVD thingy. i think that might be more nasty tbh. I think we had it last year and was more than one vom per person iyswim

although I find it almost impossible to vom so just felt blardy awful for a day or two instead...ds was chucking every 20 minutes all night.

I wonder if atm it is just the catarrh irritating their tummies, etc...I think ds swallows a lot (yuk sorry!)

Yes on a scale of one to 10 I would put this virus at about a six so probably not winter vomiting.
Certainly an interesting variety of virus though - a cold with a touch of sickness isn't one we've had before. It certainly doesn't come close to the exciting effects of the diarrhoea and vomiting virus we all had last year. Am almost nostalgic about that one.

Oh dd1 is in and out of school. Cough/cold/flu symptoms/plus a bit of vomiting.

I started with the puking nearly 3 weeks ago, recovered for a day or 2, then had a cough. Also lots of high temps for all of us. I truly think I have had flu, I flop on the sofa all day, bed at 7pm, often with no dinner. Have lost half a stone and have torn a muscle near my rib from coughing

Sympathies to all, I have never been so ill.

slightly tmi question - anyone else notice this. I normally drink a lot of fluids, am drinking double at the moment but only weeing about once a day. Is it all the sweating and snot production that is dehydrating me?

Report
onepieceofbrusselssprout · 15/12/2008 10:54

crazyloon the b** GP prodded me in the rib to examine me - I shot in the air it hurt so much. btw the pharmacist recommended pholcodeine (for adult coughs).

Coughing can cause children to vomit - even I can feel sick if I have a bad cough (plus as you say, all the snot they swallow probably doesn't help)

Dh and ds have both been ill with this bug and I felt really rough when I woke up this morning (feel a bit better having taken some paracetemol). Hopefully I'll be ok tomorrow - otherwise 7 yr old dd will have to look after us

Much sympathies to you all. My 3 dds have had coughs for what seems like aaaages now, we just never seem to be able to get clear of it. No sickness though, until 2am when dd1 AND dd2 both started being sick. They are STILL being sick now, they take a sip of water and it just doesn't stay down. It's horrid - I'm just waiting for dd3 to get it, she's only 2.8 so no way of making it to the loo/sickbowl in time like the other two! Hope everyone gets better soon x
