I have that before I get a cold. I think it's due to swollen lymph nodes in the neck for me.

have you noticed a pattern?
do you have reflux/heartburn? that can also feel like a stuck tablet.

Anxiety?

Report

DH had this for a while (possibly after having a cold; I can't remember), and was starting to get worried. It eventually went away before he had got round to seeing the GP.

I get this sometimes, I suspect it may be thyroid related. Have you had your thyroid function checked?

If it's not there when you're eating I'd put money on it being anxiety. Looks up globus hystericus. I get it from time to time. Do you find it's ok when you wake up and gets worse as the day goes on? Mine did when I had a very anxious period. I still get it from time to time but now I know what it is I just ignore it.

Go back to your GP if it doesn’t resolve. They cannot see enough with just a quick light down the throat. Trouble swallowing is a sign that should always be investigated

It may be a manifestation of anxiety called globus sensation

Report
CatherineCawood · 19/02/2018 20:26

Defo sounds like globus hystericus (love that name!) I had it and went to have a camera up my nose and down my throat. I can bring it on even just thinking about it!

Underactive thyroid? If left untreated it can cause the thyroid to enlarge. Maybe ask the gp to do some bloods?

It's highly unlikely to be cancer at your age, even though you're a smoker.

If it continues then go back to your GP as you may need further investigations.

I hope it eases soon Flowers

The more you worry about your health, the greater your anxiety levels and the more the symptoms manifest themselves.

Raised cholesterol simply means you have to reduce your fat intake (but don't go for too much sugary food or fruit).

It's called globus pharyngeous - better name than 'hystericus' as there is nothing hysteric about it (and men get it too!).

If you find yourself worrying a lot about ill health, often stress management helps with physical symptoms rather a lot.

Go back to your GP and discuss it further.

A post nasal drip can cause this feeling as well!

Yes I get it and worrying about it makes it worse. I suffer anxiety and went to the doctors she checked me over and advised me to do something to take my mind off it and it will go. It did

Could be reflux. I get it and it makes me feel like I have something stuck in my throat

@PerfectlyDone It was definitely 'hystericus' when the doctor diagnosed mine in 2006. Maybe it's changed now but I quite liked the term Grin
