He will walk like that it is very painful. The best thing would be for the doctor to remove it. (I for one, didnt cos Im a chicken and have a thing about feet) It took longer for mine to repair and when the new nail grew through it kind of pushed it off.

Meanwhile I would cushion it with bandaging so that he doesnt knock it. Ouch!

This happened to me as a child, I was probably about nine, dropped a dumb bell (sp?) on it!

It fell of after a while and grew back fine.

Er yes - this happened to me after running a half-marathon. Painful, but all grew back again eventually (but took AGES!)

yep dropped a bin on my foot when i was 16

was up all night with the throbbing pain, when i woke up my toenail had gone black

then a couple of days later it fell off - gross!!
it's never been the same since

my dh also had his finger nail fall off before when he trapped it somewhere also gross!!

I trapped my dd's finger in a door & her nail went the same as your ds.

Finally fell off & now a perfect new nail is in it's place!

I accidently trapped my brothers little finger in the door jamb, and when he pulled away he left the nail and most of the tip behind (bleurgh) It did grow back, although a bit wonky. I had my foot (in open toes sandals) mauled by an overenthusiastic buggy owner and the big toe nail split down the middle. One half survived, the other fell off, but it did grow back eventually. It was also less painful once the dead nail had gone.

You're doing exactly the right thing. You may want to trim the loose bit so that there's less dangling off to catch on things. It should grow back fine. I've done this several times! Sometimes the regrowth is a little thicker, but only noticeable when trimming nails - looks fine.
