Trapped wind. How does it hurt so much? Relief?

EventfulDay · 31/05/2015 11:22

I had a bout of D&V a few days so my gut is full of air. I've had wind for a few days.

Last night I woke in the middle of the night in agony. It was relentless. I couldn't pass it effectively and it was just ripping me apart.

Any relief tips (other than peppermint bloody tea).

Poor you. Have you tried lying down on your tummy on the floor / hard surface?

'Tums' tablets are brilliant with trapped wind, that and a walk to get things moving.

Yes, was going to post what Bathsheba did.

It's AGONY! I used to think it was a sort of 'joke illness' but I couldn't walk with it. Bloody awful. Get yourself on a hard surface and happy trumping!

Holland and Barret do peppermint capsules. Seems like a load of crap but I relied on them after my c section

I can't believe how much trapped wind I have. Tomorrow at work is going to be erm.....interesting...

I tried to grab a nap earlier cos I had so little sleep last night. I didn't get much sleep but I did seem more comfortable on my tummy.

I've just come back from Tesco with some Windeeze capsules tho. Not sure if that will help with the wind that is already trapped in my bowwel but we'll see....

This is most definitely bowel pain not stomach pain.

windeeze seems to have helped a bit I think.

I had this last week and got some great advice on here, think my thread title was 'please help I am so full of wind' (lovely).

Anyway what worked was kneeling on the floor with my head on the floor and my bum in the air. I stayed like that for 5 minutes or so and passed some wind whilst doing it. peppermint and nettle tea also helped.

Hope you feel better soon its so uncomfortable.

'happy trumping' is my quote of the week.

Hope you can get some relief today, Eventful - the yoga-style fart position suggested by Acunningruse definitely sounds worth a try. Probably not in the office but if needs must ..

I had agonising trapped wind after my c section, the pain was worse than the incision! In the hospital the midwife gave me peppermint water which I took in hot water then I got something called colpermin capsules from the pharmacy when I came out. They both worked brilliantly.

Best bit of advice i was given was to lay on my back and do cycling in the air - it was difficult to acheive at my age and size but it worked! love mnet

Peppermint tea and rubbing my stomach clockwise helps me.

Try lying flat on back, bring knees up to your chest and gently clasp hands below your knees. Still with knees up, slowly roll onto left side, return to centre and to the right. Repeat. Did this in Pilates once, when half the class collectively trumped, the teacher said it was good for releasing trapped wind. Happy trumping

Peppermint tea...but the best advice I've every had - get in a position where you feel comfortable - back/tummy/side, knees straight/bent, on all fours like a dog, hand stand/head stand/shoulder stand -it really doesn't matter ...and stay there as long as you can...should help it move and stops the constant agony...
Happy trumping...

Buscopan for the pain. Also excellent for period pain.

Try laying face down on the floor/bed with your arms outstretched to each side as far as you can reach, with your upper body as flat as possible and your bottom in the air.

Air rises. You'll be fine in no time.

It's a miserable thing and so bloody painful.

Oh and try no dairy for a few days. A bout of D&V can make you lactose intolerant. I was off dairy for weeks after norovirus. It may help to avoid it.
