We moved to our house last summer so keep getting lots of things popping up which we didn't know about.
This is a shrub, any ideas what it is? It looks like it's going to be magnificent, whatever it is.

The buds are huge, by the way, the size of a hand.

Its a peony. I'm not green fingered enough to tell you the variety though. I hope that helps a bit.

The leaves look like it's a paeony.

The flowers are magnificent when they come out but v delicate.

Ooh well jealous, agreeing with peony. Glorious but short lived.

Ooh interesting! I thought peonies died back in winter and regrew (we have a whole bed of these types of peonies elsewhere...I've always wanted some so it's great to be just presented with them!)?
This one is a deciduous shrub

Ah, a bit of googling leads me to think it's paeonia suffruticosa, Chinese tree peony. Can't wait for the flowers to bloom now, they are going to be massive!

Is it woody? Could be a tree peony. They are absolutely my favourite flowers! The tree bits grow and grow but are deciduous.
I also like the ones that die back but I'm hoping my trees will grow enormous!

Yes, Chinese tree peony I think. It's a bit leggy at the bottom I am tempted to lop it off a bit after it's flowered.
