Please comment on my Tapas menu for tomorrow please...

DH's birthday, have a few people around (10-12 i guess?) for tapas and margharitas.

We are going to have:

Tortilla/spanish omelette - cut into small bite sized squares.

Patatas Brava - classic spanish spicy potatoes

Gildas - anchovy, Guildillo Chilli and green olive on cocktail sticks

Pa amb oli - our version. Bread with olive oil, but probably not rye bread as DH is not impressed with rye bread.

Prawn and Jamon Croquets

Sundried tomato bread (bruschetta with sundried tomatoes) served with mixed antipasti

Selection of cold meats

Olives - mixed

Feta stuffed mini peppers with vinegrette/olive oil dressing.

To drink

Margharitas including virgin margharitas for the pregnant women and drivers.
Spanish beer
Some soft drinks.

Does that sound like enough? Too much? Spanish enough?

Ilovemydog that looks fab, do not tempt me. I have already removed about 5 tapas from the list due to excessiveness! (but I might make one more eh?). One of the ones i removed funnily enough was the meatballs. supersal do you think meatballs should be done? DH would be happy?

Also, I am having trouble finding Guindillo Chile peppers {arrrrrgh}. Going to hunt around tomorrow a bit more.

I am doing all of it myself (with the help of couple of friends) apart from the stuffed peppers, sainsbury's deli counter ones are far nicer and easier to do! Shame I am not in exeter now though as they did the best stuffed peppers . It is all relatively simple to do which is why we picked these tapas, mostly arranging, and a little cooking.

I was also going to do:

Ceviche - which is salt cod or similar 'cooked' in lime. But I am not sure whether my friends who go for 'uncooked' and there are 2 pregnant people who can't eat it.

Salt cod fritters and allioli - mini bitesized fishcakes. I decided not to do these mainly as I am averse to garlic right now, makes me physically puke! But I might make them without the sauce. Maybe just some mayo.

Meatballs and tomato sauce - more bread to soap up sauce.

Ensaladilla Rusa (spanish potato salad), potatoes, veggies artichokes - too much prep.

Mozarella and Red Peppers.

But realised we were doing way way too much!!!

I love the idea of tapas in spain. In many regions they apparantly bar hop, stop off in a bar, have a drink and a tapa or 2, then off to the next one. I expect you get drunk as a lord...pub crawl with a bit of class eh

The only thing I would add would be a large jug of Sangria full of lots of lovely fruit,
which is pretty low in alcohol and therefore even though I am preggers I wouldn't feel too guilty if I had a glass,

oh and lots of Spanish guitar music in the background for that holiday atmosphere

We talked about Sangria, and DH was not keen. I might do a small jug for me .

Actually, I can't drink it. In fact, I will be unable to eat most of this food. I am on a bland food diet, or as DH likes to sing the Eels song 'hospital food' when he is cooking for me! (17wks pg, hyperemesis, mostly controlled by medication and limited food choices!)

Looks fab... If I was going to offer any constructive criticism, I would say its a bit lacking in meat dishes.

Meatballs would be good or chorizo cooked in red wine is a personal favourite

ooh yes, chorizo in red wine, good call. Sounds lovely though pavlov. Sad you won't be able to enjoy it though. I hope the sun shines and makes it a bot more spanish than today

Well done on kncocking the ceviche on the head, I got the worst food poisoning ever after ceviche. Had a very long flight home, only saving grace was that as it was a plane I could sit on the loo and vomit at same time.

Ok I said to DH meatballs were highly recommended. He bit my hand off at the mention of them. So, they are back on the menu . Good call those who said meatballs.

I am biased, I did the meni for DH to approve, and I don't eat red meat so I sort of automatically bypass those dishes

Sounds 'lish - how about a good Rioja and some sherry (Amontillado, not Harvey's Bristol Cream )


Oh, if you're doing sangria, I have the best recipe, it has ginger ale in it and pickles you from the toes up!

Sherry might be nice, but DH thinks he needs slippers if he drink it .

My best mate had hyperemesis - she used to tell people ginger-flavoured sick was just as bad as any other variety. And that travel-sickness wristbands can be handily fashioned into garrottes, if they are foisted often enough upon the hyperemetic. Poor you.

Alright, I have a sangria recipe containing many ingredients, not least of which is a spicy soft drink

I always do the chorizo in red wine and it is so simple.....that's the only thing I'd add - but it sounds yum
