good cereal or bad cereal

she currently eats porridge with milk, ready brek with milk, weetabix (2) with milk

but she's started pouncing on DS's shreddies afterwards (will the child ever stop eating )

are they ok for 9 month olds

You get interesting poos after dry shreddies - sort of pebble dashed. Also if you let any dry on after a spill it's at least as bad as weetabix.

I'd say that they're fine. AFAIK they're wholegrainwith no added sugar, so just leave 'em to soak a bit so they're soft and let her loose !

I'm sure ds was having Shreddies at that age.

She really has got hollow legs, hasn't she? Bless.

Can't remember if they have added salt? Not that this would stop me. I'd be delighted if dd showed an interest in breakfast, although she makes up for it at lunch and dinner, luckily.

shreddies do have added sugar, probably not a lot though and a bit of sugar wont do much harm. I think weetabix have added sugar too, could be wrong there though

Yeah. Sainsburys own brand raisin wheats are even better- lowest salt and sugar content and additive free.

Shreddies have 12.8g of sugar per serving! that's loads isn't it?

Report
pupuce · 22/02/2005 12:51

Beansmum per 100g or per serving ? if per 100g it's not too bad if it is per serving it's a lot!

I'm another one for the Sainsbury's version..although they do contain a bit of glycerine, they have nothing else except wholewheat and raisins. Leave to soak for 5 mins, then finger food at breakfast!

weetabix also has added sugar but I can't find out how much for a comparison

do you htinkit'd be okay for a 7month old?
with semi skimmed milk
as this is what we have it'd make my morning easier

Report
HunkerMunker · 22/02/2005 16:54

Wouldn't give a child under two semi-skimmed milk - they need the fat I think.

Didn't think you were supposed to do cows milk until they were 12 months plus??

Our dd had shreddies early but in dry form as a 'snack'. Took us ages to get her eating them with milk on...

Report
knot · 22/02/2005 17:09

i thought you could for eating and cooking with but not as main drink, will have to buy full fat for him

We give dd shredded wheat bitesize, mixed up with sliced banana. They are the same size as shreddies, but have no added sugar or salt (it was the sugar which put me off giving her shreddies). I can't remember how long she has been eating them, but it must be about a year. She is now 25 months old.

My DD is 7mths and I give shreddies to her. Although I have just realised that I am giving her Semi skimmed which is what the other 2 drink. does this really matter she is still having the recommend amt of baby milk aday and she only has cows milk on her breakfast so it would only be about a pint a week.
